That has a lot more to do with it being a Chevy lump.
That car was the biggest POS I ever owned. 5 years/60K - It needed: 2 oil lines for turbo (failed twice), 2 coolant lines for the turbo (failed twice), valve cover due to failed integrated PCV valve, catalyst converter, turbo, and the cable for the hot/cold blend door. I traded it as soon as the 5yr/60k warranty was up.

Yup! I'll never buy an American made car again.

I did at about 2500. Meant to at 2k but had a long trip, such is life and it's a yota. I only drive about 6 to 7k miles a year currently so I just change it every 6 months rather than milage based. If not i would just do it every 5k. you aren't going to hurt a car with fresh oil even if you did it every week (just the drain plug maybe), that and it's relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme of things.

Do what makes you comfortable! I changed mine at 1300 miles. It will be changed again at 10000, 20000, 30000...

My interval is 2k initial then 5k after. I used to change every 3k on my vehicles but synthetic doesn't start breaking down that quick so extended

I just bought a brand new 2025 SRS in the underground color and loving it. Dealer says 10K oil changes. I'm thinking 5K oil changes with the 1st one at 2K miles. What are your thoughts! Thanks-JIM from Pensacola FL
That’s what I did for the wife’s 25 ORP…she drives around 12K a year and it’s reasonable to drain early with a filter change at 2K and thereafter every 5K with OEM filter and I like Mobil 1 0w-20.
You done good on the SR5. The ORP is the 3rd 4Runner for her and I do the maintenace until I find a Toyota Dealer who doesn’t overfill the crankcase…😂😉

I read through too many of these debates, and my oil change routine is/will be:
  • 1st change done at 1,000ish miles
  • 2nd change will be done at 5,000 miles
  • all changes after will just be done at each 5,000 mile interval (5k, 10k, 15k, 20k)
With how much I drive, this is about 2 oil changes per year for me, which I am cool with. I actually enjoy the process (is it weird that I look forward to doing it?)

Congratulations on your 4runner. We have different opinions when it come to oil change. Some says stick with what the dealer says and others will tell you you need to do this and do that. I’m no expert but Im used to do 1st oil change between 500-1000 miles and I did it around 600 miles. 2nd is around 1500 miles, 3rd is 3000k miles then 5000 miles. Then every 5000 miles interval thereafter. Its just that I am comfortable knowing that oil has been changed. Thats just my 2cents. You can stick on whatever you are comfortable of doing. Cheers and good luck.

1st oil change was done at 2500km then, at 8000Km interval or 6 months here in Canada. This service was included in the purchase of the vehicle for life of the vehicle.

8000, 16000, 24000, 32000, 40000, 48000, 56000, 64000, 72000, 80000, 88000, 96000, 104000, 112000,
120000, 128000, 136000, 144000, 152000, 160000km, 168000, 176000, 184000.
Move it on to the next owner.

lol ...

2014 4R Limited : every 10k miles, changed to 5k miles at 90k (granted apples to oranges since the 2014 was n/a engine, not turbo)

2023 tundra platinum : 1200 miles, then at every 5k odo reading (5, 10, 15, 20) at 20k will swtich to 4k intervals

2025 4R platinum : 1200 miles, then at 4k, and every 4k odo reading after that.

and btw the 2014 4R spark plugs using 87 ethanol for 106k miles ....
