I just did my oil change at 986 miles this past Sunday. I love the fact that I can actually do the oil change without having to lift the car!. I fit underneath and was able to do all that I need to do. A little tight but doable. Also the manual states 5.9 quarts of oil with the filter. Not 6.

I recently took it in and I will say I have not been to a dealer in a while since i've maintained my cars myself. What I saw compared to pre covid times is making rethink taking it in for anything else.

First, they are so busy everyone is running around. They are bound to forget, skip or check things.
2. They did my service and I asked the service tech about any TSB's he searched his computer and said none exist.
3. My maintenance record I received said they checked the transmission oil, I talked to the guy that apparently did, I had a question for him, and he later told he never did. Even though the record says he checked.
4. The rear brakes are 1mm less than the front for some reason, that didn't make sense to me.
5. All around chaos and confusion, they just have numbers to go through its not their car they don't care.

There is a TSB out for all 2025 4runners for front brake squeal which I think may be related to the 1mm difference you observed

Also curious, should I just learn to do oil changes myself? Do you have to put the 4Runner Plat on a jack to do the oil change or is it just high enough by default? And then you just remove the old filter, let it drain, and put the new filter on, drain the pan and re-fill with 5.9L of oil, replace the crush washer and put the plug back in? How do you dispose of the old oil? Do you have to do anything to the vehicle after the oil change or just start driving it? What oil is recommended for the 4Runner Plat w/ iForce Max?

Change your own oil if it pleases you. I'm in between houses right now so I can't do mine in an apartment parking lot and honestly in this TX heat, that's fine. Just find someone you trust. A reliable mechanic is worth their weight in gold. If they cry like little girls when you ask to bring your own parts, drive away quickly.

On these new 4Runners I believe you need to remove the metal skid plate to access the oil filter. The manual calls for 0W 20 oil. I'd use full synthetic. Myself, I'm probably switching to 0W 30 on my next oil change because again, this heat can thin out a 20 weight oil pretty fast. The recommendation (In my opinion) is for compliance with CARB restrictions and EPA MPG regulations ad NOT about protection and engine life. At 16 MPG right now, I can't imagine it will get much worse.

This will help you get an idea of what it takes. Unless you know a mechanic that you personally trust, I have more faith in you changing your oil the first time then them. Why? Because its your car and you care about the outcome. No amount of experience will replace that.

At least the dealer hooked it up and did it for free when they fixed the door rattle for free, and also programmed custom settings (dealer only settings) for free. (not one of my scheduled ones, those are all still intact). The manager here is really nice and we've been doing business for 15 years.

I go to AutoNation Toyota in Winter Park. Bought 3 4Runners there so far and have always had them serviced at the dealership and am very happy.

First oil change at 650 miles. Used both OEM Toyota filter and oil. Toyota oil is formulated by Exxon Mobil in the US and has high Molybdenum content, which is beneficial for a new engine. Will do another change at 2500 miles and then at 5000 free by Toyota. After, since it is turbo, every 3000-3500 miles with a new filter. BTW, Toyota has sale and promotions on parts each holiday, so stock up ond on oil if you are DIY. It comes even cheaper than Mobil 1, Valvoline or Pennzoil, etc.

Just did my first change @ 5629 miles. Swapped in a Fumoto F133L oil drain plug for easier future changes. Oil was dark “reddish” amber. Replaced with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Hybrid. Will post an oil report when available.

Spoke to my brother, an auto mechanic, about it. He indicated GM is having issues with 0w20 oil in the 6.2L. Their fix is to switch all recalled vehicles oil with 0w40. The L87 is a v8, so perhaps different situations, but apparently the thinner oil is not protective enough. It does make one wonder…

This is almost exactly how I am doing it. 1st change was at 700ish miles. Next will be 2500 then 5k and then 3k intervals after. Only I am not going to dealer.

Toyota synthetic is really good oil made by Mobil specifically for Toyota. It is what I use and will continue using.

I did my first oil change yesterday at 1,575 miles. My ORP hybrid only took 5.5 quarts. I think 5.9 would have gone way over the fill line.
Maybe some of the old oil didn't drain.
