Reminder that the OEM filter is 50% of 20 micron sized particles, they prioritize flow over filtration.

Toyota does this because it means their filters are cheaper, since they're buying 99999 million of them from Denso each year.

There are Toyotas using OEM filters all their lives with 200-300k mi on them.

Balking at changing a $5 oil filter when you're doing 3k intervals is as silly as doing 3k intervals as a whole.

easy middle ground. change oil and filter at 3-4k miles. oil and filters are cheap. never go to 10k miles, that's marketing fluff...

I'm sure the filter will continue to do it's job to 1500 miles if Toyota says it's good for 10,000. You do your thing and I'll do mine.
Agree. I have no qualms reusing the filter for the 2 oil changes I've done within the first 3000 miles, given Toyota expects you to leave it in for 10k. If the oil guy is right and NOT replacing it during these 3000 miles improves the filtration, great. If not, great; you're still strictly better off than the manual recommendations given you've changed the oil 3 times in 3k miles. I'm doing what he recommended:

ODO 500: drain/fill no filter
ODO 1500: drain/fill no filter
ODO 3000: normal oil change with filter
ODO 8000: normal oil change with filter, continuing every 5k

Fearmongering about keeping the factory filter for 3k mi total is hilarious

The US has been on ultra low sulphur gasoline since around 2021, aka 10ppm fuel.

In Central Europe, where they also use 10ppm fuel, their intervals can extend up to 2yrs/18,500mi.

You are very plainly throwing away money and resources changing at 3k-4k mi.

10k mi is fine on euro spec oil, and 5k is fine if you insist on using something like 0w-20 AFE.

It is not 1980 and you don't need 3k intervals, turbo timers, and header wraps.

I don’t care about the resources. I’m changing every 3k, regardless. The cost is pocket change. People can change at 10k or 50k, it’s their choice.

I dont think he was trolling you, bud. You're obviously free to maintain how you see fit but you're going to encounter other opinions in this forum...some are useful & appreciated whereas some are not so much. Keep an open mind about something unless you can factually disprove some information.

Enjoy your Sport trim. I nearly bought it also but took a $500 loss to get the Sport Premium mainly because I wanted the factory upgraded JBL! sound system & the exterior camera system. In hindsight I wish I had I just paid the additional for the Limited trim.

Agree, however expressing an opinion is one thing, implying that someone is unintelligent for what they are or want to do is another. We all want to gain from each other's experience and or knowledge. Criticism is uncalled for.
