I wouldn't mind having better shifting behavior honestly. The hard shifts I'm feeling early in my commutes until the transmission warms up is concerning. Others have reported it also of course.
What I believe is that Stillen has a vested business & financial interest in high performance parts, aftermarket modifications, engine tuning & presenting results that encourage interested people to purchase parts/services that support the use of higher octane fuels for increased gains. I don't...
I commend you for efforts, time and participation in this community. This is notable information to have received & I don't dismiss it. I consider it at face value with very little doubt about the accuracy of the information you've graciously obtained & provided here. Thank you. 🙏🏻
It's...
It takes more than a few words to explain things especially when it comes to a differing opinion & the rationale. Short replies leave alot open to interpretation and don't lend well when discussing a technical topic. IMO of course. 😅
Thanks for sharing your insight & personal experience working with these engines. I respect your opinion & perspective. I'll look forward to seeing your data when compiled & posted for all interested to see.
As for my personal opinion, I doubt I'll change my mind. I also don't make up my mind...
I would be interested to see them...as long as the Dyno results show the same exact engine bone stock from factory in the same exact vehicle using an 87 octane gas AND again using a 91 octane gas. But to be very transparent, even if the results show an increase in HP I'll still be skeptical...
I can appreciate your POV & perspective on this topic. As I said in a previous post, I'm not a gearhead or well-versed in high performance automotive applications. With that said, I'm no meathead either & this is a topic that has captured my attention & curiosity. I've thought alot about this...
I'm at 5,100 miles now & it still shift hard in the lower gears when cold. I wonder if they under filled the tranny like some here have reported their differentials under filled.
Slighty off topic but one would think that with a premium sound system in it that Toyota would have placed sound proofing in the areas that obviously need them. Just another cost cutting measure yet the increased pricing doesn't reflect that of course.
If you think Stillen gains nothing from their claim then continue to fool yourself, bud. It's a reputable company, yes, but they sell performance parts after all & are very likely in league with gasoline producers.
Did Sheldon Brown assist in designing the 25-26 4Runners?
Please direct me to...

Until I see some hard evidence in the form of official documentation from Toyota stating that the stock engine as is will deliver more HP when fueled with Mid grade or Premium grade gasolines I will cast doubt on Dyno results & claims that the stock engine does deliver a slight increase in HP...
You should take a chill pill, bud. This is a forum for fellow 4Runner owners where different opinions & thoughts about topics are a given.
Maybe the Dynos do show a slight HP increase with premium gas in a shop under controlled circumstance. I mean we're talking “15-20 HP” which is only...
If it does than is the minimal HP gain really worth the Premium grade price paid per gallon especially with the cost apporaching record highs?
It's a personal choice really. For my money though I think Regular is fine & if I want to give it a taste of Costco's Premium grade occassionally for the...
Are you saying that in the 4Rs factory engines (without aftermarket tuning) using Regular grade gasoline will provide approximately the same HP as using Mid grade or Premium Grade gasoline?
If you paid handsomely to own a TrailHunter then you can certainly afford to run only Premium 93 octane gasoline. For a less financially fortunate guy like me paying more for gasoline for any proven or perceived benefits doesn't make sense when the vehicle does fine without it & it isn't...
Personally I don't care about HP gains. It has plenty for my individual needs. I'd like to have better MPG because as expected I haven't seen the claimed EPA estimated MPG or close to it in real world driving.
I doubt the performance gains but admittedly I haven't done & won't do extensive testing to prove or disprove claims that using a higher octane gasoline than recommended should be done. It's kind of like claims that ignoring the recommended 0W-20 oil & filling with a heavier weight oil is...
