Oil Change Interval. Yes I know it has been covered over and over. My two cents.

the oil intake, oil drain plug is open and dumps to giant
oil diaper I strap to the frame.
every component gets the freshest juice available
Ok, I give up. You OBVIOUSLY know engines better than me.

Some real world testing on a 4 cylinder turbo.
I call BS on that video

1. No source for the testing. It never names the lab, the vehicle, the oil brand, or the test dates, and shows no data tables. The technicians and the service manager are anonymous. "Controlled testing" and "engine teardowns" can't be checked.

2. The numbers don't line up. It says it pulled valve covers "after 50,000 miles of accumulated service under each protocol," but the phases it described ran 15,000, 37,500, and 50,000 miles. It also calls the old rule the "30,000mi oil change interval." Sloppy details like that undercut the claim of rigorous testing.

3. The narration reads as scripted. It's formulaic, full of dramatic buildup ("what we found shocked even the technicians"), and never shows an engine or a lab report. A single test engine also can't generalize to all engines, oils, and driving.

4. Its own advice is more cautious than its headline. It says towing, short trips, heat, and dust are severe service and need 3,000 to 5,000 miles. So the 7,500 "winner" only applies to easy driving.

Towing, short trips, excessive heat, and excessive dust are prime examples of severe service!
Perhaps the video should have used the word 'excessive' to better convey the message?
I learned all of that back in 2000 when I took automotive classes at CSN taught by seasoned mechanics. Of course, those driving conditions are going to warrant 3-5k oil change intervals.
I find your attempt at debunking everything this video says laughable, because a lot of what it says is, in fact, true.
Geez, some of you people hate AI so much, you just want to deny anything it says and fabricate reasons why it couldn't possibly be right.
You know, people make mistakes too and often mispeak on things, so why are you holding an AI video to a higher standard?

I ran across a you tube video by the Car Care guy Ahmed stating that new turbos should do 3k or 4k oil changes. How reliable is this suggestion?

For me its spot on. Hot turbo 4 cylinder I always change around 3-4k. To each their own. I plan to have this a long time and its easy and is not bad in way. No one ever had problems from changing their oil more often than not.

It can never be a bad thing (for the engine) to change oil more often, and it's hard to argue with Car Care Nut, but your own driving style, schedule, and budget are also factors here.

I'm doing changes every 5k, which I feel is a good compromise.

The one caveat is that there is a slight potential you're introducing more silica / dirt into your engine if you're changing oil every 500mi instead of 5,000mi.

I agree. I've watched a lot of his videos too. I did my first oil change at 1k and will do the next one at 4k. I want to try to keep this car for 10-15 years if I can.

I don't care what a YouTube person has to say about my 4Runner. All I know is that I'm changing the oil for the third time at 5000 miles. Next change will be at 10k miles, a 5000 OCI. The oil is and will continue to be analyzed every oil change. I think 5000 is initially safe, the analysis will let me know if I can go further. I will go further if the analysis informs it. If I cant get at least 5000 miles satisfactorily out of the Toyota oil, I'll look at other oils. Might look at other oils anyway to extend the interval because my time especially is extremely important to me, saving some money is nice, too, but not the primary consideration. Toyota oil is cheap, the oil I move to might not be, the analyses cost money. . . it's not perfect, not for everyone, does cost some of my time, but it has worked for me over a few decades, half a dozen vehicles, 500k miles. I'm a 20k mile a year driver. Maximizing the OCI is important to me.

Post your UOA's and which oil/weight you're using

Possible, but if you're changing that often, it should be getting trapped in the filter and removed.
