Oil Change Interval. Yes I know it has been covered over and over. My two cents.

All my cars with full synthetic at 5k miles intervals. Not one car has ever been to a shop and they are not known for reliability.

Appreciate the input...but I can say the same thing and I do mine at the manufactuers suggested intervals.. I think most cars nowadays are built to be pretty reliable, also all of your vehicles have been high dollar vehicles...so I am sure an extra oil change is nothing to you.

Lake Speed, Jr. is an expert at this, and a *tribologist with a proven track record, literally and He has meat in the game. He bought a Toyota that was turbocharged to prove valid based on objective data instead of supposition.

A tribologist is a scientist or engineer who studies and applies the principles of tribology—the interdisciplinary study of friction, wear, and lubrication between interacting surfaces in relative motion.

My take is all one needs to do is open a transmission oil analysis service and make a YT video mentioning a few conspiracy theories and some meaningless anecdotal data and you'll be rich in no time.

Why six months?
If you're not driving your vehicle 3,000 miles within a 6-month period, chances are that you are short tripping a lot. Short tripping is considered "severe service" in that it's likely that your oil never gets to temp. With that, you have moisture buildup, fuel dilution, oxidation, and other potential contamination. A filter is $5 and 6 quarts will run you $40. No reason to not change your oil at 3K/6month intervals.

I work from home...my trips are not short...just some days I do not drive at all. Nothing severe about that.

Or you just don't drive often which would not be severe service. That's why I asked South Coast why six months, to understand his basis.

adjust accordingly.

for my wife its severe service since her drive is roughly 2 miles 1-way to work. i have to drive it once a week to get everything up to temp and dried out especially during winter, but it never works long term.

my 14 and 25 wont have that issue since i have to drive 15 miles 1-way to work 4 days a week between 35/55/75 mph at 5am and 5pm.

her 23 tundra and 18 tundra and other vehicles, has always had water leaks in the exhaust system due to moisture accumulation during winter start ups and not doing long enough trips to dry out the exhaust system.

and she barely breaks 7-8k in miles per year. her oil change schedule is 4k and mine is 4k right now but i might go back to 5k
