Due to engine break-in and the possibility of metal shavings coming from the engine (as I've seen posted in forums and videos on YouTube, which have reported problems). I had mine changed at 1000 by a local shop for peace of mind. I'll also probably have it changed at 5k, but Toyota said it doesn't need it until 10k.
If people feel they need to change the oil extremely early, have at it! Change it every day of the week if it makes you feel more comfortable. But I'm sure Toyota also has data that led to their 10,000 mile oil change interval. I think the better question is why does Toyota recommend every 10,000 miles under normal conditions? They are not worried about break in? They are not worried about warrantying a bad engine under warranty? Just saying.

Can’t answer that as I’m not a Toyota engineer, but I looked at it as better safe than sorry.

If you're going to use logic I also wonder how many followers the YT "experts" would have if they just said "follow the manufacturer's recommendations". That's what AI says too. Hmmm.

No need for ā€œlogicā€ and AI— we can use empirical evidence (oil analysis) and make decisions based on data. Huzzah!

My oil was clean as new at 1300 miles...so oil analysis would have been throwing away more money! May as well throw it in the fireplace!!

Just because you didn't see anything = good? No trying to be a jerk but thats not how logic and science works. If you expected to see metal shavings then I think you need to see some youtube videos from the motoroil geek about this. Its free

What cracks me up is how upset people get about maintenance people are doing on a vehicle. It’s not even theirs. šŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

Number one...been buying autombiles for 40 years and have never had a single drive train failure! This 4 Runner is the first time I have ever changed my oil early or beyond the manufacturer's recommedation. Lastly I do not put much stock in some random dude calling himself an expert and posting monitized crap on the internet. Toyota has already figured out the science!

To summarize your point, ā€œI’ve been alive for 60 years, trust me bro, my experience is conclusive proofā€ doesn’t cut it, I’m sorry

The logic that many use on here is this...
Risk of changing oil at half interval = Near 0. DIY cost $40 2-3 times a year.
Risk of trusting Toyota interval = potentially huge $$ loss
Therefore, one can eat the cost out of abundance of caution. Can be proven out later one way or another with no down sides other than some time and low $.

Also, I’ve never "posted monetized things" or gotten anything for free. Only posted once and it was a question/how to guide.. Very mature of you to start throwing around false accusations to attack my character instead of debating the facts.

Its your vehicle do what you want with the given knowledge, I can tell you think you know everything. I don't, I'm willing to change my mind if proven otherwise.

What the sam hell are talking about? Nothing I said was attacking your character. You mentioned motor oil geek video and I said I do not put much stock in them. Why are you making what I said about you? I was not debating anything. I was stating my own experience. You must be a Gen Z or Millenial because your lot is way too sensitive. I never said I know everything, but I know heck of a lot just from life experience. Go ahead and do what you like, I dont like throwing money away. Young people throw money away and wonder why they cannot purchase a house...BRO!!!

My first change was at about 1,500 miles and I'm glad I did; it came out almost black. I've never had a new vehicle's oil look that black on the first change, and yes, I'm one of those guys that has been changing my own oil for over 50 years for the convenience sake. I hate making an appointment, driving 20 miles to the dealer and waiting for an hour. I have a heated, detached garage/shop with all the tools so I can change the oil in the time it takes me to get to the dealer.

This is my first turbo engine so I'm wondering if this is part of the reason for the look of the oil? In any event, I'll change it again at about 3K miles and see what it looks like then.

BTW, I bought a couple of 5qt jugs of Mobil 1, 0-20 full syn for $27 each on Amazon, pretty good buy, I think.
