Eventually planning to do something like this, but with the SDHQ power relocation kit, once it becomes available.

We paid cash for it. No lease, no finance.
I'd def take it off and leave it somewhere else then.
The vehicle does not require anything like a piggy back plug in device to operate any of its electronic features, all control modules are inside the vehicle where you can not see or easily access.

It is for something else and who knows what.
If you are not aware of it from the dealer, leave it out.

Id go back to the dealer and drop it on the salesperson desk. "Excuse me, you left this in my vehicle undisclosed " and walk out. Excuse me while I go check mine

Ikon is used by dealerships to reduce their insurance costs for their cars on the lot, and also most sell the memberships as part of the sale. It’s a second GPS location security program. My new F350 Platinum I bought said it was a condition of the sale. When I told them that was illegal, they knocked the $399 cost off the price of the vehicle but still listed the charge on my P&S. I told them not to install it. Got it home, popped the hood and saw 2 wires off one of the batteries. There it was hidden along side the battery.

You can call Ikon and make them shut it off, plus I would demand a refund of any premiums paid on your purchase and sales agreement.

I've seen this device being discussed on other forums. It seems it is installed in 2 locations, in the engine bay directly to the battery like yours or piggybacked to the OBD2 connector next to the steering wheel by drivers left knee. Like others have said, it is installed at the dealer. It's used to easily locate (repo) cars when people do not make their car payments. Some dealers put the device on every new car before it's sold because until the car is sold they do not know which ones will be financed.

A quick email to Ikon and they will disable the module. So you would have to agree to them tracking you as a condition of your financing for Ikon to continue that service.

For end users they push insurance discounts and a 10k payout towards a replacement car if it can’t be located.

For dealers they offer geofencing and inventory locations and alerts. So the dealer protects their cars before they are sold, then sell the module, install cost, and monitoring to the consumer. Win-win for them. I’m sure as with all dealership items, there is a kick back to them.

Does anyone know how to get at the back side of the ODB connector? I'm starting to think that there's something spliced in there. The panel right below the steering wheel has "airbag" molded into the plastic so that's not just a pop out thing.

I'm starting to wonder if there are any tracking devices on my Trailhunter. The OBD plug is black so that's a possible sign that there's nothing on that assuming that all aftermarket pass-thrus are white. But there's also a green LED that's right next to that. Is that legit or not?
Wait what, my ODB port is white on my trailhunter... Growl, I hope it's not one of those passthrough gadget.

I've got a "vinpoint" sticker on my key fobs. After some sleuthing it appears that Vinpoint may use the GPS location from the vehicles built in GPS, vice a separate hardware tracking device like IKON. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

Anyone have this thing under the steering wheel air bag?

It's clearly not Toyota judging by the half-assed installation. There are two LEDs in there, one blinks green when you open the door. That ribbon cable is part of it. Other than dropping that bottom plastic, I didn't dig any further into it. I can't remember if this thing came with an alarm or not.

If anyone knows how to remove the airbag housing or possibly the left side plastic where the round storage is, I'd like to investigate further.

since no one looks at the good dealers perspective... the good dealers use them to track vehicles

1. either stolen during test drives
2. stolen during the night

they usually remove them before the sale, but i do see them sometimes forgetting they didnt remove them

i see this more prevalent in bigger cities.

luckily here in ND we dont have that issue where dealers need to install trackers but i cant say for sure like Fargo/Grand Forks or Bismarck which are our biggest cities. i know fargo is the leading city in ND for vehicle thefts.

Hi!

That is an IKON tracking device I believe. Dealerships often install those as part of a "theft recovery service". I believe in most states they are required to disclose that they are installed at the time of delivery. I removed mine they day I bought my 4runner. I believe my vehicle is being tracked enough already. I do not know who IKON is selling your location data to along with being able to track your "stolen" vehicle. Hope this helps!

I was poking around under the hood, just checking things out when I noticed something connected directly to the battery via an inline fuse. The wires went to a small flat rectangular device stuck to the inside of the fender with double-sided tape. The only identifying mark I could see was a wireless symbol. No other wires, just the battery positive and negative leads with the inline fuse.

I'm tempted to pull the fuse and see who calls me!
It looks like it was wired by a 3rd grader.
