As the title implies, I just did my first oil change. It looked nice and gold coming out. The sample I saved is a bit darker but it could just be the lighting in my house.

I'm going to send it for analysis and will update this thread with the results.

I used an OEM Toyota filter, and Amsoil 0W 20.

I'm at 560 miles and will be doing the same at 1,000 miles. Curius on your results. 90% of the current miles on my TRD Pro are city driving. The 10% is highway driving in Normal mode.

Good you kept a sample. Will want to see the results when they are available.

I just turned 1,000 today. I plan to change it now, 3,000 and 5,000 and probably every 5,000 thereafter.

So I had the oil change done on mine. 1955 miles. To my surprise it was amberish. I used Mobil 1. Next will be 5000 the. Every 2500 to 3000 from then on. Any similar experiences with the color of the oil at about 2000 miles ?

I also did mine @ 1936 miles. I was quite amberfish and smelly. Also it left a nice silvery shine after wiping the dipstick.
Please OP let us know the test results once they are in. It would be best for knowledge and comparison to see them done again on the next oil change or 2 as well.

Hey, I just hit 1500 miles. Should I take it into Toyota for the oil change? They put a sticker in my window saying its free at 5k miles.

Not free at 5k, tire rotation and inspection are, 10k for oil, rotation and inspection are free, my dealer would not let me use the 10k oil change at 5k so I paid for it myself not sure if all dealers are like this or This is a Toyota policy ?

@Drewbice That is entirely up to you. I brought my own oil and filter to a 10 minute place up the road rather than drive 30 mins to the dealer where I certainly would have spent at least an hour. I will go in for the free ones and otherwise do my own at a 5K interval.

I've read that engine break-in can create some significant particles, and that many manufacturers use a special "break-in" oil. I don't know if Toyota does this or not, but for me, the extra cost of that early oil change buys me some peace of mind.

you are given 2 free oil changes from toyota care. they recommend 10k and 20k for oil changes and 5k for tire rotations.

you DONT have to get the free oil changes at 10/20k. it depends on how much of an a$$hole the service manager wants to be.

mine has no issue using the 2 free oils at 1k or 5k, i just know after the 2 free its on my dime.

on our 2023 tundra, i did the 1k at my cost, the 5k at free and 10k at free.

my 15k and every 5k after that will be on my dime. not a big deal

Oil looked ok, typical even.

Replaced with OEM Toyota N1 filter and 6qts of Mobil 1 0w-20 ESP x2
