I bought the intercooler from SXTH Element. I’m waiting on my down pipe from OTT and will have them both installed at the same tim, my next oil change.
Yes, it’s overbuilt. A guy on a Facebook group was building his 4Runner. He indicated he has built (probably a Tacoma?) to over 500 hp with no issues whatsoever. I met a sales manager from a Tennessee dealership. He shared he had customers who’d built their Tacomas to 600-700 hp, but he...
Your concern over future needs to remove the fender flares is where I’m at. There appears to be a lot of reasons one would need to remove them as the build continues. Mine had to come off for a bumper install and will probably need to come off again for the installation of the intercooler from...
I have the updated intercooler from SXTH, and I’ve put a deposit down on the down pipe from OTT. An updated turbo probably isn’t far down the road either. People ask why. How much more could you possibly want or need? We don’t buy 4Runners for speed…. Blah, blah, blah…
Well, I’m excited to...
I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I owned a Dodge Ram with a Cummins diesel, and although I had intended to do so, I never put a turbo blanket on that one either.
A turbo blanket helps turbo spool faster by trapping heat in the turbine housing, making exhaust gases hotter, more expansive, and faster-moving, which spins the turbine wheel more efficiently, creating boost sooner and reducing lag
I could tell a big difference as 14hp is a noticeable gain, but maybe that’s just me. You will really feel the difference after a tune! I could tell the slightest differences following performance enhancements in my other vehicles just as well.
Keep it running for a few minutes. As soon as I found out what cylinder wash is, I became mindful of it and try very hard to let any vehicle run at least 5 minutes before turning it back off.
Yeah, there was a problem with the ordering process. It wasn’t accepting the address for some reason. Despite sufficient testing of the website’s ordering process, they encountered those problems. I believe I may have been the one to find it. They allowed me to order through a different...
If my mother were still alive, I believe she would have to buy one in this color. She had several rooms painted in a very similar color and owned an retro-bird (Ford Thunderbird) in the Thunderbird Blue color. Others have said this color is growing on them. It’s growing on me too!
600hp will be difficult to attain without either serious mods or an engine swap, and there’s some limitations that have’t been explore with the hybrids. However, I know I will be in the 350-370 range with my non-hybrid quite easily within the next few months. The leap to 400hp isn’t that much...
@jrdees916 - I definitely want to hear what it sounds like with the OTT down pipe. Please share again after you add it. I’d like to do both of these mods, but I don’t want it to be too loud. Hopefully, the technology that’s built into the AWE will absorb it pretty well.
So far, this is the best sounding exhaust replacement solution. I’d like to hear some clips of what this one sounds like either the down pipe that OTT will be releasing as that’s definitely the next big mod for me.
That’s great! It sounds like a wonderful trip. Someone recommended using tow/haul while on the interstate to stop the 7/8, 8/7 gear hunting, and I believe it helps the fuel mileage a bit. Most trips my wife and I take are a 50/50 combo of interstate and highways with stop and go traffic, so I...
This is my first 4Runner, and I plan to keep it 20+ years. Something tells me the hybrid battery and/or the sunroof will cause the most headache over the long term. Anything I’ve ever had with a sunroof, it was a disaster at some point. I’ve also been on this forum and 6G4R FB pages long...
Everyone has their opinion, and it’s been debated and discussed ad nauseam. Read all the opinions, watch the videos, do some research and do what you think is best. I’ve been beat up one minute and praised the next for my choices! Good luck!
If you plan on keeping it forever, stay away from the hybrid and a sunroof. The battery will eventually require replacing, and the sunroof will eventually leak. I went with the ORP as it seemed to be the best value.
