I too also caved. I blame you all lol
I did check the rear tow hook. It seems like the front opening is only big enough for a d-shackle (not sure if 3/4 inch as I dont own a d-shackle)? I foresee only using the front opening as a tie down point for a rachet strap if i hang something through the rear window

The soft shackle I have doesn't fit through the first smaller opening but only the bigger one further in.

Just ordered as well, $83.09 shipped with tax. Thank you for the link!
You are welcome! FWIW I have not heard anything from Hoover (yet) on when it will ship. You may have to be patient.

Hopefully we can just enjoy the good looks and not worry about getting dragged out of a ravine someday by that brand new shiny hook!

Do the front really come with a recovery strap or is that just a marketing image?

All marketing since you can opt get ARB recovery straps from Toyota for a premium markup.
With the front hooks, you'll only be able to get soft shackles on them. Even with that, you'll be right up against the plastic trim above it

Soft shackle and kinetic rope is the only way to go if you aren't winching.

Any rec on a good kinetic rope brand?
I don't have any name brands that I use, because they are too expensive. But, I do make sure I get one that is an inch at the minimum wide by thirty feet. Anything shorter or thinner is better for mid size SUVs.

I've got a TRD ORP with the standard black recovery points (2 front, 1 back). Photos below. My question: is there a functional improvement going with the red Toyota recovery points (or something like this sxth-element prototype)? Or is it mostly about looks? The alternate recovery points all seem to provide maybe a bit more access but its not clear to me that there is a real functional benefit. But I don't know which is why I'm asking. (And to other question above, I am not recommending this but was gifted it for xmas and look forward to using it to help someone ELSE out of being stuck: Hokinety Recovery rope)

A quick google images search of that part number shows this

if it really is this then it looks good. Also being right hand (and in the picture) implies there's a left hand too. Probably good to distribute a pulling load across two mounting points

rear wise ...

only the tacoma has a right and left oem hook.

the 4runner only has a mounting point for the right side oem hook

normally shipping tie downs are removed from most non BoF vehicles. BoF vehicles they leave the oem tie down points on since they are used for off roading.

the red oem ones are just fancy replacements for the oem tie down points. they just charge you for a fancy red one and keep the oem one, so toyota saves money keeping the originals.

unless you buy them afterwards and you keep the originals
