I'm deciding now on a 4R please let me know what if any problems you have had? Especially with the engine and hybrid system. Also any other problems with electronics. Literally anything that has been a headache and if you have had to take your ride back to the dealer for repairs including software updates?

I have the Trailhunter trim (hybrid engine) with about 2500 miles on it. It is an amazing ride, fast, fun, responsive, it just drives great. I am coming from a challenger scat pack and the torque on the low gears feels very similar. No issues at all, just smiles.

I Thought Toyota fixed the brake squeal problem?
What do you mean by pain issues.

Just the brake squeal. Otherwise 0. 14K miles on TH. Also remember that no vehicle is perfect, specially since everyone has different needs and standards.....

All good here. The only glitches are with the infotainment system. Sometimes forgets my phone and other random occurrences. Apparently software isn’t Toyota’s forte. Hopefully future updates will polish that. Otherwise this is mechanically solid truck. Well built for off and on road driving. With strict maintenance could be a rightful descendant of the 5rh generation.

Brake Squeal and Air Dam are VERY common but both have supposedly been addressed. Brake Squeal by TSP (that has not proven works so not really fixed yet). Air Dam issue fixed by a hold on all the vehicles in transit - assumedly fixed at the factory now.
One not mentioned above is the lack of threading in the frame for rock rails in the TRD OR (and sport?) trims (apparently not an issue for SR5?). The after market for rock rails has mostly figured this out it seems, but Toyota (who will sell you the Trailhunter rails) has seemingly not - one reason I'll be going aftermarket.
All the other issues listed (and many many other quirks described on this forum) seem to be more random.
Like most (or at least many) others I've got these issues but still love my 4Runner. They are relatively small issues.
Just thought of a potentially not small issue: transmission overheating when in 4HI on extended uphill offroad. I've not experienced this (and I've tried) but it is a concern.

If you follow this forum you will learn just about everything you need to answer your question. My strategy is to check the What's New link regularly and read all the entries that seem to be something I could learn from.

a bunch of Toyotas
none, zero

SR5 4x4 absolutely awesome in every regard, no ragrets, no issues.

Well there was one issue ands that was merely the hassle and red-tape to
disable Toyota Connect tracking, but I got it done finally. and keyfob remote
start still works w/o that spyware running

I also have some familiarity with Toyota products
all on road now and registered
2010 Yaris
2022 rav4 hybrid got into a mischief, it's deceased
2013 Tacoma TRD OR
1999 4runner Limited

this 2025 SR5 is freakin sweet ain't gonna lie

Have you seen more than one report of the trans overheating? The only one I have seen is on TFL.

I don't expect them to be perfect, I just want to know what to expect. Maybe I got a little spoiled with my Tundra almost 100,000 on the odo and other than routine maintenance I have spent less than $4000 on odd stuff going wrong.

I don’t own one but did drive an ORP six months ago and again last week. Big difference to me was the interior noises. Six months ago seemed the door panels didn’t fit right or weren’t secured enough. That’s been fixed. Also the doors now sound so solid when you shut them. So I think they are improving as they go .

SR5, coming from a 23 Tacoma. Having been in the Toyota ecosystem for many years, 79 4x4, 88 4x4, mid 90s 4x4 , 23 Tacoma, this is my favorite by far. Air dam fell off at 500 miles, brake squeal, glitchy Android Auto. Change the oil no more than 5000 mile intervals. Turbos cook the oil.
