I took my Pro out on Sunday for my first Level 3 trail run. It was a beautiful day and all the windows down and the sunroof open. I just cleaned up the interior today and there was so much dust inside and on everything that I'm not sure I will ever open any windows again! Cleaning the mud from the exterior was also a real chore and I'm not sure if my tires will ever be black again. There's obviously a conflict between my desire to go off-road and how much I really like having a clean vehicle. I guess I'll just have to get over it. Ha ha!

Interior cleaning is never fun! Exterior is no problem.

One of the main reasons we bought a 4R was that there are no removable doors, panels, roof, etc. Broncos and Jeeps have those, but we would never use them. They would just create more noise, dust & water intrusion, and other unwanted problems. We also purposely bought an ORP with no moonroof.

THIS was mentioned in another thread, but works great for that purpose. Just make sure you use ear protection as it is loud. I already had one for cleaning off electronics and LEGO, but works fantastic for car detailing.

I have an ARB brushless compressor under the hood. Maybe I should just use that.

Glad you are enjoying your rig! Off roading. Planning a cross country trip.

REMINDER: One thing that is easy to forget is the fact that you have vents on the interior in your hybrid’s cargo area to allow the 400 lbs of batteries under that rear deck to breathe. So when you clean your dusty interior remember to take a look at the filter in those vents and clean it if necessary.

How do I access those filters?

If you were able to clean it in a day I bet your rear window wasn't down.

Agreed! As popular as the rear window going down is, I think that’s where most of the dust enters regardless of how many other windows and sunroof are open.

Manual section 6.3 (P555 in my manual - probably same in yours): "Cleaning the hybrid battery (traction battery) air intake vents"

Filter cover pops off from bottom (manual says screwdriver - I used plastic trim pry tool)
Filter pops off cover - 3 tabs.
relatively easy. Mine seemed relatively clean even when I had lots of dust in the vehicle after off-roading with the sunroof open and front/tailgate windows down.

A previous thread included the information below. (Apologies to whomever contributed it. I archive comments that seem relevant to my needs, but I am not good about recording who posted them!)

“Take my word, not only were the filters dirty but the tube and foam leading down to the fan were coated. The Toyota parts manager said they had a hybrid in this week with an overheating battery and when they took the covers off they found the filters clogged. These fans really move some air, do not recommend driving on dusty road with rear windows down.

To remove, just use a trim panel removal tool and work the lower inboard corner so you can grab it. Once corner is out, give a careful firm tug and it'll pop out and should come free, Note the upper tabs that go behind the top piece.”
