First oil change. Made huge mess.

Did my first oil change today. Toyota care doesn’t pay for the 5k service but they did an inspection and tire rotation. I changed the oil today and that 0w20 oil ran out of the oil pan and hit my drain pan at mach jesus. Splashed up onto the passenger front tire and left a 2 square foot stain on my driveway. I will know better next time. Gotta get a stand for my drain pan and a splash resistant mesh thing for it.

That stinks. Leave the filler cap on and dont pull the plug completely out next time. Helps control the flow. Or better yet install a fumoto valve.

sorry to hear you dealer is being a pita. toyota care doesnt actually care when you do the 2 free oil changes as long as its before the 2yrs mark and only pays for 2. its just your dealer being a puta on saying that.

my dealer doesnt give a crap, did my first toyota care oil change at 1200 miles and the 2nd at 4k miles.

they see it as they get money sooner from me after the 2 free ones.

My dealer gave the same BS spiel to me when I wanted to schedule my Toyota Care first oil change early after my engine break-in period. But I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement which told me the same BS as the dealer. As @Nodak said, what I originally recall was that new owners get 2 oil changes within the first 2 years of car purchase with Toyota Care. Toyota shouldn't care when you have it done within the 2 years unless something changed.

A supervisor from the dealer contacted me after I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement about it. The supervisor was trying to "wheel and deal" with me about the oil change. He offered to waive the labor cost if I just pay for the cost of the materials. *SMH* He should be offering to honor the free oil change with Toyota Care rather than trying to charge me. Nonetheless, I declined. I usually have done the oil changes myself with my past vehicles. I plan to do the first oil change on the new 4Runner until the Toyota Care scheduled oil change comes up.

its just laziness of the service rep not wanting to go into the system and doing the 1-2 min work of bypassing the 10k restriction of charging the oil change to toyota care.

in the last 15+ yrs, my dealer hasnt had an issue doing toyota care oil changes early. bless her heart "April" has been my oil change service rep for the last 10+ years (they have a different service rep for oil changes vs the regular service rep)

she even knows i dont like tire rotations on any of my vehicles. my 4R really doesnt need them since its FT4WD and the tires pretty much wear even front and back. the wife's tundra's end up the tires last longer than she keeps them since she barely breaks 50k miles in 5-7 yrs of ownership of a truck. she ends up trading in for a new one before the tires need replacing.

our 2018 tundra only had like 43k miles after 5 yrs of ownership on a set of duratrac SL tires after we bought it.

It does eliminate splashes very well but is so open nothing backs up either. Also, if you drop your drain plug it will keep it from falling down through the hole in your drain pan and having to be fished out.

Took my 2025 TRD OR to my Toyota dealer close by for a 500 mile first oil change ( did not buy it there), they said it is not due intil 10,000 becuz Totota care wiil give you 2 free oil changes but at 500 miles you have to pay out of your own pocket. I said open the overhead doors I'm leaving.

It depends on the perspective. That's exactly how the dealer wants the customer to think and the stance they have from their business standpoint. The other perspective is if a customer bought a vehicle from a dealership, what happened to the customer service and allowing the customer the flexibility to determine when to get their two oil changes (as long as it's within the 2 years timeframe)? If it's barely anything compared to the revenue they got from the customer's purchase, why not provide it to the customer?

You are absolutely right. The oil changes (2) should be free. The customer is always right used to be how sales and service treated buyers and owners. Nowadays they really dont care. The dealership I bought my 4R from never contacted me for any service. No followup. Congrats on your new vehicle.

The exact same thing happened to me on Sunday. Splashed all over and half of it missed the catch pan.
