I have Fumoto valves on every cars/trucks/motorcycles I own right after the 1st oil change for the last 40 years... Highly recommended! Just flip the lever and drain the oil without even get a single drop on my hand.

I use ValvoMax. Practically the same thing but with a different style of valve. Awesome product.

I have been doing my own oil changes for over 20 years and I will do the same for my new 4Runner. Most dealership have an apprentice do the oil changes and unfortunately at times something is missed as you can read from the posts above. Plus most dealership buy oil in bulk and that is sometimes the cheapest oil they can buy.
Also with this cars height I don’t need to lift it to do an oil change! I would recommend if you could to do your own oil changes and save the money. Plus chances are you will do things right and not screw things up because most people who work on there own cars actually care!

I have a Limited and did the 1k change and soon to do the 5k change myself.
Super easy process compared to the 5G 4Runner.
Did not have to raise it up at all, though it is a tight fit for me getting underneath and moving around (air dam and factory side steps). If the front air dam wasn't there, it would be a much easier process (haven't removed that yet).

Remove the air dam. It doesn't do anything and it has a habit of falling off...

air dam is debatable. roughly .7 mpg with it on

worth keeping if you do a lot of highway miles or speeds above 40 mph

I just had the bolts that had fallen out, replaced for the 3rd time in less than 10,000 miles! I will ditch it totally soon. One post here says it does not change fuel economy, one says it give you 0.7mpg - given my long journeys will be with a trailer - I know which is the biggest hit to my economy :ROFLMAO:

I’ve changed my own oil every time including right after 10k due to just returning from a cross country trip to SC. Actually changed it once I arrived in SC as well. I’d rather do it myself and as someone else stated, I don’t very much trust the dealer unfortunately. I’m not a big guy so it’s fairly easy to get the front skid plate removed off my TRD Pro.

I made the mistake of not holding onto the receipts from the initial filter and oil purchases so I’m just keeping a log in my phone. I plan on owning this vehicle until it quits on me anyways, so I’m not too worried about it.

Not sure if anybody knows this but you can add your own service records on the Toyota dashboard.
https://www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-dashboard/

It's under add a record. And you can pretty much say exactly what you've done like oil changes, filters, drive shaft lubrications, gear oil, that stuff and you can put the miles in as well.

This is how I keep active records on the Toyota site with all of my maintenance done. Been using this for years back with my 5G.

Thank you for informing those who didn't know how to add their own records onto the dashboard. 🙏🏻 Very helpful information.

0.8 mpg… still not worth it
i agree, but for some it matters.

hell i waste more fuel doing remote starts during the dead of winter in ND that anything else.

Thank you for posting that. I watch a bunch of their videos, but had not seen that one. So it seems it may save a little bit ~0.8 mpg in 20, so about 4% improvement.
However it is still a pain in dropping bolts all the time. Also will get in the way, when I take it off road. AND I get much worse mpg when towing. So it will end up getting removed soon.

for the wife and me, tracking mpg is just a gee whiz thing. we could care less about mpg in the grand scheme of things.

i mean we waste more doing remote starts in winters than we save the rest of the year.

you should see the 2018 tundra, 2023 tundra mpg during the winters. hit like 4.49 mpg on our 2018 tundra during the dead of winter and remote starts and 6.9 mpg on our 2023 so far last year in the dead of winter.

ignore the any time based calcs, the app still counts even when i retire a vehicle or no longer have it.
