We love our new 4 runner for everything except the handling/jolts of small bumps/potholes. Coming off a grand Cherokee and also own a. Highlander and there is no comparison with the jeep ride. I know people say body on frame and its not a luxury car but it should be able to handle small bumps better. It is good on the expressway handling pavement cracks at speed. It has the red Bilstein shocks. I’ve checked the tire pressure at 32 psi. It only has about 350 miles and people say it may get smoother? Anyone have success with anything else?

I'm at 3200-ish miles and it hasn't changed much, in my opinion. The general consensus is that the OR/ORP suspension (red Bilsteins) is stiffer than we'd all expect for an "off-road" trim.

I'm 15k miles and 14 months in and I am going to swap the suspension out for the TRD 2.5" lift kit, or the Old Man Emu MT64 kit to soften the ride.

It's a common complaint. Even going to 17's won't make it much more smoother. Suggest getting new shocks and struts. I plan on going with the Fox 2.0 later this year.

I remember getting a rental Tacoma off-road and it was very similar ride. I took it the ORP rode just like a truck.

You are comparing a truck to cars. It will never be as soft riding as a car. You can swap the suspension and try 17 inch tires with more sidewall, but it still wont ride the same.

Also came from a Grand Cherokee, agree the stock ride is rougher. Once I switched the tires (Toyo AT3 285/70/17) it definitely got better. Still not quite on par with the Jeep, but definitely an improvement over small bumps and dips.

@lakerunner the 2.5" TRD OEM lift kit adds a huge ride improvement. I was shocked the first time I drove one. It's just under $4000 parts and labor ($2999 + $990 labor). Knowing that it gives you full Toyota warranty and is a fully comprehensive kit with new axles and knuckles designed by Billstein to TRD/Toyota specs is worth a premium over the MT64s

I got the OME MT64 with Durobump rear bump stops paired with method wheels and 295 mickey thompson tires and shit is smooth for me

Is the 4R’s kit the same as the Tacoma’s? Would love to see an install video from yall!

It is not the same kit as the Tacoma. We have an install video for the Tacoma 4G and Tundra 3G on the Ed Martin Toyota YouTube channel. We recorded the 4Runner 6G video last week, it's being edited this week and will probably go live later next week.

Seeing the title shocked me. When people say it’s rough riding my first thought is are you using a load range E or worse? I have the sr5 and switched from stock to 285/70r17 Ko3 load range C NOT E. I really can’t tell the difference in the smooth ride. Before this I had an F250 and you felt every pebble. Load range c is amazing.

You have a sr5. That’s why. Trd off-road was so awful on stock tires that going to a load range e tire made no perceivable difference. They ride like a lumber wagon. Im actually really surprised I didn’t see mention of it prior to test driving one

Damm I wished I lived near you. 4 days ago I was quoted $2960 for the installation (labor) "and as a goodwill gesture I'm happy to knock 10% off that, bringing it to $2,664.00." This was from the large No VA dealership I bought my 2025 TRD ORP from last year. I told them I'd be holding off - but if they would have quoted $1K labor it would be scheduled.
BTW - really appreciate all the great info you guys put out. I may be following up with some questions about the detailed characteristics of TRD Lift Kit (#PTCCY-8932).
