Can’t install OEM rock rails because no threaded holes in the frame

Yup. Bizarre. I ordered blind bolts and will give them a try. There are some threaded holes but most are not.

The following video verifies that blind bolts can be removed although I can see how things might not go as planned if the locking anchor failed to retract into the bolt.

Just spent 2 hours at my local Toyota dealership and didn't make any progress. They looked up the OEM rail compatibility and told me that the TRD Sport was not on that list (attached). Not sure how the SR5 is but the TRD Sport & Off Road isn't.. Finally got a hold of a person at CBI who is sending over a warranty claim form to have them send out a new hardware kit they are preparing for this issue they are now becoming aware of

So did anyone have success mounting the OEM rock rails using an aftermarket blind bolt solution? I am about to pull the trigger on these OEM rails bc there's a sale.

How can we be certain that blind/box bolts are rated for the load? Has it been tested or at least analyzed? The stress on the frame is non uniform with the blind bolt and thats the opposite of what you'd want.

For a non-structural part I wouldn't care but for this, I'd want some proof first before I tear up the frame. Toyota needs to address this issue, anyone hear any news on this end?

How many total did you use? 6 per side, along with 2 OEM bolts for the threaded holes?

Sorry to bump this thread back up but I had a question for those who installed sliders on trucks without the threads in the frame: what's the best solution that is reversible in the future? For example, let's say I go with OEM ones right now and upgrade to Dissent sliders in the future, I wanna be able to get the hardware all the way out.

- I feel like rivnuts won't be able to hold that much load bearing weight on the frame
- not sure if plus nuts are that much better.
- can blind bolts be fully removed from the frame?

I have the Cali Raised sliders with blind bolts they provided. I believe I could remove them as the bolts have a "screwdriver" slot to hold the bolt from turning - which is a bit of a pain because its hard to get leverage on the spots where you can only fit a stubby screwdriver but with patience and effort it was doable - and I think the reverse would be the same. I only wish the bolts and washers were black vice silver so they would blend in with the frame better.

I also have Cali raised and actually talked to the engineer about this and yes they can totally be removed.

Thank you guys! Gonna get a set of 12 from caliraised as they are local to me. For the 4 front bolts, they are just normal M10-1.25 bolts right? Anyone know the length or PN of the OEM toyota ones?
