Toyo Open Country AT3

Our ORP (non-hybrid) with stock suspension is running five Toyo Open Country AT3 E-rated LT 275/70 R18. This Toyo 275 (33.2") appears to be the limit for stowing the spare without mods or deflating.

We stayed with Toyo's due to past experience. We had Toyo OC AT3 LT 265/70 R17 E-rated on our previous 2020 Ford Ranger with a FP/Fox Leveling Kit. Minimal tire noise, a little heavy feeling & a bit clunky on street bumps compared to an SL. It's a truck. Performed well off-road while aired down.

So far the Toyo's on our ORP are great. Expecting similar experience as with our Ranger. They handle well on road (no off-road yet). Little noise. A bit less harsh on road seams than the OEM Falken's. Hoping to reduce the jarring road seams even more with a lift soon. Averaging around 20.6 MPG so far.

With all this snow and ice out, I had a failure in my house that required a trip to town. I took my Tundra because if I'm going to wreck a truck it ain't gonna be the new one! :D

Turns out, the tires I put on it last summer are some of the best tires I've ever used in the snow. Cooper Discoverers. Same truck, have had KOs, KO2s, and Ridge Grapplers. I'll probably never buy KOs again. They've always been trash in the rain, and not great in the snow/ice either. The Ridge Grapplers were okay, at best.

The Coopers are also about the quietest and best in the rain I've had on that truck. Look great too. The performance of them in the snow has pretty much guaranteed that when the 4Runner gets new tires, it's going to be those.
The Ko3’s are improved from the Ko2’s

Only have about 9k on them and they are great. Quiet and have been good off-roading. Had two sets of KO2‘s on another truck previously and so far I like the OC AT3’s.

Are you running the Toyo 275 70 18s with a +20 offset.
Was wondering how much poke you're getting.? Thanks in advance

We have TRD flat black +45 PIO wheels.

Outer tire sidewall is a hair inside the top of our ORP fender flare and even with the small flare-out near the green arrow.

Thanks for the pics. You must have a different wheel with that different offset, mine have the +20.

What were you averaging before the switch with the factory falkens?

20.1 MPG per dash, but for only 99 miles before Discount Tire installed our AT3's.

Fill-up at 566 miles, calculated 20.9 MPG.
Fill-up at 807 miles, calculated 21.6 MPG.

Last two fill-ups calculate ~1 MPG higher than the dash display.

Air dam removed.

Which drive mode are you using most of the time? Lots of highway? I can't get over 17mpg.

Normal Drive Mode.

For anything that lugs the engine... like hills, quick passing, twisty mountain roads, etc., I use Tow Haul for a more responsive shift strategy and speed control.

I have not felt a need for Sport Mode.

Driving is a mix of surface streets @25 MPH up to an hour highway drive at @75-80 MPH.

I drove a 2020 Ford Ranger for 5+ years that lugged in Drive. I almost always kept it in Tow Haul.

Adding a new one to the list:

Installed some Nokian Outpost NAT’s in 275/60/20 the XL ones) on our TRD Sport a month ago…. Can’t say enough good about them.

As quiet as the stock Yokohama’s, and these balanced with very little weight at all. They ride much better than the smaller Yokohama’s, and there is no rub or any negative issues that I have seen. Gauge fuel mileage did drop by 1mpg or so, but that could be attributed to the weight and ~5% difference in height.

By the way, I have been through some nasty ice and snow with these in this Wisconsin winter we just had, and they did awesome. The stock Yokohama’s were lacking on ice and snow for sure. Another bright spot is that the Nokian’s don’t throw small or larger rocks like the stock Yokohamas did.

I definitely like these better than Nitto Terra Grapplers I have had, and better than the Goodyear Duratracs that I have on my work truck.
