My 26 stumbles as well if you idle with the air conditioning on, not sure if this is a problem or if this is the way it is
Mine does an intermittent stumble while idling. I thought that was strange and I was ready to address this when I bring it in.

Yeah, very high-pitch whine is probably the turbo (at least it does sound like that). I usually only hear it briefly as it spins up on acceleration, but I also have a high-pitch hearing loss so maybe it is blowing everyone else's ear drums ;-).

@Gumpus I think you are spot on, although one thing...4lo torque is after the transmission, so I would not expect that to affect a/c.

I checked with Google Gemini, and it does verify my suspicion that the a/c compressor uses an electric motor for the hybrid version, but a traditional mechanical pump for the gas models. So, that would explain differences as well as the sounds. Definitely one of the less-known advantages of the hybrid versions--I suspect there are quite a few that may not be obvious.

I have the non hybrid and was stuck in a traffic jam yesterday due to an accident.

It was the first time I noticed the "stumble" idling. In fact, I am here tonight on this forum researching if this is normal or not. Did not associate it with the AC compressor at the time, but I did have the AC on.

I was trying to investigate all the different sounds and vibrations with this vehicle today.

My engine has the AC stumble.

It has this strange sound from this youtube video. No clue what this noise is.

I swear I hear some weird chirping like noise from my exhaust or from under the vehicle somewhere. Have not gotten under to look.

I am at 2500 miles.

On February 26, 2026, Toyota released T-SB-0016-26 for '24-'26 4G Tacoma for A/C magnetic clutch "chirp" noise upon engagement of A/C compressor. Apparently, the replacement parts/assembly are on backorder. I have yet to hear anything regarding 4Runner's A/C compressor.

Checking back in here today. Wife drove the car and said "i just noticed how much this car vibrates at idle"

Turned off AC and the vibration was reduced quite a bit. Looks like this is definitely a thing
