I have mine off. My ac button now stays on

If I turn that button on when I start my car my ac button is off….. EVERYTIME if I turn the button off like it is in my picture my ac button stays ON everytime I start my car. Take it how you will….easy to try yourself
first dont use auto (hvac controls, not the menu box), its sucks but thats my preference. turn off the a/c button and switch the flow to either vent or floor

its weird your works differently.

our 23 tundra and my 14 4R works normal as long as i

1. dont use defrost or windshield
2. dont use auto

it remember the last setting when ignition is off whether its 14 4R or the 23 tundra

now granted i tell the wife to always turn off the a/c before getting home to ensure the system airs out and reduce the chance for musty a/c smell due to just shutting off the vehicle while the a/c is on.

if it continues i would have a tech look into why the a/c is always on when ignition on, it should remember the last setting at ignition off outside of the auto button use

@Nodak We are in the minority! I too read the manual before I got mine as well, and I have referred to it many times since (one reason I have been able to answer a lot of questions here). I also have the PDF downloaded--in my case in a location I can get to from just about anywhere.

Here's my general summary of the way it works

-- If the AC switch is flicked and the screen shows AC on then its on
-- If the screen is blank but the AUTO setting is on, then the AC is on (can be disabled in infotainment theoretically)
-- If the screen is blank and AUTO is off but the temp is set south of the outside temp then the AC is on
-- If the car is parked in the driveway and your inside watching the game or having dinner just assume the AC is still on

The only way I've found to actually have it off where the fan is on but venting outside air is to hit the AC switch twice so the screen actually says AC Off. If you turn the car off in this configuration it does seem to remember it at next startup. But blink your eyes wrong and I'm sure the truck will interpret it to mean turn the AC back on.

Seems very odd behavior--I do not see this at all, it works just as I would expect on mine. Perhaps there is a problem with something on yours--I would suggest bringing it up with Toyota service...maybe a wonky switch or something like that? Hope you can get it resolved, sounds really annoying...

Same here, and what’s worse is sometimes the 'front/eco' mode will turn itself on. They definitely need a software update to fix this. Those lights should always show the current state, and the vehicle shouldn’t change settings by itself.

oh, and I never use auto, so that’s definitely not the problem. This looks like a software bug.

anyone else getting used to 'nothing' appearing on the black bar between the temp control knobs, when " AUTO " is selected for climate control? i mainly use 'AUTO', so it's a black shiny bar of nothing.

i.e. is it just me, or is it a little odd that the fan speed doesn't appear? i have driven a 4R since 2017, so this void is kinda noticeable, but am sure i will get over it., lol

Yeah, fan speed does not show when in auto. Might be nice, but not a show-stopper. I guess when using auto you are not supposed to be curious how anything works :).

auto will set fan speed accordingly. so it kinda pointless to show a fan speed since it will vary wildly.
