Skid Plates - OEM or Aftermarket?

Has anyone installed an after-market skid plate that fit OEM drill holes/mount points? Or would you recommend just buying the OEM TRD skid plate? Thank you.
I would just consider the TRD Aluminum one, and then go aftermarket for the transfer case, shock mounts, LCA's, fuel skid, and a differential skid.

is that access panel for the oil drain plug as well as the filter? Or do you need to remove the skid plate to replace the oil filter?
I believe that front removable panel you can see is for the filter, and the larger hole behind the first 2 holes for the drain plug?

This looks like it. I just changed my oil yesterday so remember where the filter and drain plug location is. I do think oil would drip onto the skid plate though from the looks of it since the holes arent too big

Yeah it seems that the inside of the skid plate would be covered with oil. Better to just remove the entire thing than have to deal with it burning off when you drive.
Hopefully users of it can chime in.

This is exactly what I was thinking. With the stock drain plug, I would imagine it would get pretty messy (like trying to pee through a keyhole) since the drain flow changes as the oil level goes down. BUT, perfect excuse for a Valvomax or Fumoto system (assuming the skid plate has enough clearance for those things).

I also wonder if the little door for the oil filter is big enough to reach in there, remove the filter and have it drain with out getting the oil all over the skid plate.

Would love to see an oil change video with something like an RCI skid plate installed.

There’s plenty of room to install a valve device and that’s what I plan to do when I do my next oil change. I got the plates after my last oil change, so I haven’t done one yet.

The access port is large enough that I will be able to easily reach in and screw on the drain tube. If I need more room to work, reaching from the side of the plate would be easy enough.

I have one on my Skoolie (bus, Caterpillar engine) and it does make things easier. You can put a hose on it (I do not recall specifics, but I think what I got had a connector to slip on a hose) so you can route the oil directly to the waste bin.

@VB4Runner Your post came up after I posted mine (when the page refreshed)! If you get one could you post the specific part you used that fit? I just installed a full OEM plate set (with the aluminum version up front) and they do not have access holes at all...this might a good solution.
