Hello,

Has anyone removed their factory door edge guards? Mine came installed even though I didn’t want them, and I’m not a fan of how they look.

Before I take them off, I wanted to see if anyone else has done this and has tips for removing them as cleanly as possible.

I know they’re friction-fit and installed with a rubber mallet at the port. From what I can tell, the official removal method is using a trim tool and tapping them back off with a mallet but I’m open to better suggestions if anyone has them.

Grab the edge and pull. That's what I did on my 2022 Limited.
I was thinking about doing that, but didn't know if that would work 😅 . I tried doing it half heartedly and it didn't move, so I just assumed it would take more force than that. I am going to give that a go tonight and report back.

Thank you!

It’s one of the easiest things you’ll end up doing. I understand the nervousness though. Just get after it and start pulling it and it will just peel off. If you see any adhesive left, just a little goof off on a towel and you’ll be good to go.

Update, you were 100% right. I was getting into my car this morning and just decided to see what happens if I pulled harder and they popped right off.

Thank you sir!

Haha awesome! Looks a thousand times better without them and the only door that the guards are even saving is someone else’s door haha. As long as you open your door like a civilized adult you have nothing to worry about

I am very careful, but it is still easy to open a door into something--and it does not take much to take a tiny chip out of the paint (so I discovered). I purchased a clear film from Amazon (mine did not have anything) that I have yet to install (maybe this weekend, like I say every weekend so far...). I have no experience yet but tiihs is the product:

The one I got is 1/2" wide, hopefully sufficient. They do have a 3/4" width as well. If I ever get it installed, and remember, I will try to post back here.

I will probably go this route if I want to get some door edge protection.

Why are you wanting to take them off?
I just didn't like the way they looked. It always kinda looked like the front doors were ajar.
I have seen these on different colored cars and they look a lot less obvious. Like on white, they blend in pretty well, but on the Heritage Blue, it just visually threw me off every time I saw them.
