The highest I have seen is around 28-29 mpg on a highway trip. This is with a bike rack attached which might affect aero.

Has anyone done back to back testing with higher octane gas to see what the effect is?

For a heavy truck this is normal. The RAV4 is a passenger car. It serves a different purpose.
Um yeah, I knew that. My screenshot shows the mileage from my Frontier (traded in on the 4R) and my motorhome, both much worse than the 4R. I guess I was just sneaking in a little brag about the RAV and how well the PHEV maximizes the MPG. ;)

From my 2525 mile road trip a couple of weeks ago:

Off Road Premium iForce Max. Toyota cross bars with Thule Pulse 614 Medium 14 Cu Ft cargo box (only opens on passenger side). Left front grill goatee stock air flow dealy on for mileage. Total payload weight (inside and on cargo box) 715 pounds. Two 85 lb dogs in the cargo area. Drove in ECO mode the entire time.

Road trip only. Combo of two lane mountain and rural roads, interstates with 80 MPH limits, four lane divided and undivided.

Results: 2523.8 miles, 46:35 hours driving time. 21.6 MPG.

generally in "comfort" mode. crossbars removed. generally 87oct.
20.8 avg mpg
best tanks: 25.4mph, 24.8 mpg, 24.5 mpg
worst tanks: 18.3mpg, 18.9mpg, 19.2mpg

I’m still getting 14.5 mpg (14.46 calculated, 14.6 on dash) on my 2025 Toyota 4Runner Off-Road Premium non-hybrid with almost 2,000 miles.
I’m getting an oil change tomorrow since some people claim it makes a difference; I don’t believe it but what the heck.

Vehicle: 2025 4Runner Off-Road Premium
Engine: i-Force 2.4L Turbo non-hybrid
Drivetrain: Part Time 4WD
Modifications: None, totally standard
Driving Mode: Standard
Wheels: 18” TRD Black (Port Installed Option)
Tires: Falken Wild Peak A/T 265/70R18 116T tires
Tire Pressure: 33 (It started at 35 but at 641 miles dealer set to 33.
Driving Style: I think I’m moderate
Highway Speeds: 65 to 75 MPH
City/Highway Split: 60/40’ish
A/C: On most of the time. Not even sure how to turn it off.
Traffic Type: Mostly suburban/non-rush hour. Zero stop and go
Gas Brand: Costco “TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline”
Gas Octane: Regular 87 mostly (Tried premium 91)
Gas Ethanol: Pump says “Contains Up to 10% Ethanol”. Southern California.
Miles at Last Fill: 11/15/25 1,931

ORP, factory ARB 3/4 roof rack, chin spoiler removed, 34 psi in tires, 80% highway/20% city, mostly in ECO and occasionally in NORMAL - 21.1mpg average (dash numbers - not computed myself at the pump).
