Most recent fill up, I was showing 19.5 (I hand calculate mileage every tank, I've never looked at the truck's estimate).

Not bad at all considering I idle for about an hour every day, and my commute is 45-55ish mph with a stop sign every mile. My Tundra got 12.9 doing the same drive without the idling at the end.
Yeah that seems about right. Any wheel/tire modifications?

Not really. I have the Trailhunter wheels, but factory ORP tires and suspension. So they stick out a bit further, but no more than half the people in this thread with TH and Pros.

Air dam has been off since day two.

My Trailhunter has been getting barely 18 MPG during a cold New England winter. I have not seen a huge difference in city vs highway. Has anyone been doing better than this (or worse)?

Yeah man, cold really affects the MPG for sure. Denser air, less battery juice, etc....

Almost 4k miles, still right at 19. Eco vs Normal makes zero difference, for me, if you watch the throttle/RPMs yourself. Rode Eco for almost 1000 miles with no change even after resetting the monitor.

Well I have the the platinum and I average 18.6mpg in general using Eco mode. I have over 600 miles on my 4R. some trips I get 22-23mpg it shows you it on the dash after each trip but in general miles driven/gas put in it's been 18.2-18.6mpg
Update on this?

I asked the EPA if they tested the 4runner hybrid mpg, rated at 23/24 since I am at below 19 average as are many others here and on Fuelly. Here is the response I recieved.

"Thank you for your inquiry. The EPA did not perform confirmatory testing on the 2025, Toyota, Hybrid 4 Runner, but that validates the manufacturer's laboratory testing before a vehicle is put on the market; it doesn't validate in-use, or real world, performance by actual owners.

Manufacturers test their own vehicles following EPA's test procedures—usually pre-production prototypes—and report the results to EPA. EPA reviews the results and confirms about 10-15 percent of them through our own tests at the National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory (https://www.epa.gov/vehicle-and-fue...e-emissions-testing-national-vehicle-and-fuel). Additional information about fuel economy testing is available on the following websites:

For hybrid vehicles, the nature of current hybrid technology—the addition of a battery as a second source of on-board power, sophisticated control systems, and sometimes a smaller engine—makes a hybrid's fuel economy more sensitive to certain factors, such as colder weather and air conditioning use. You can read more about EPA's fuel economy programs in our fact sheet at:  https://nepis.epa.gov/Exe/ZyPDF.cgi/P100IENB.PDF?Dockey=P100IENB.PDF.

EPA is committed to ensuring that manufacturers accurately test and report the fuel economy of their vehicles according to federal regulations in order to provide a fair comparison to consumers. It is feedback like yours that helps inform the implementation of the fuel economy program, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

We hope this information is helpful. Thank you for contacting the Office of Transportation and Air Quality.

They also have the same MPG rating for all hybrid models, which seems impossible. My TH has beefier tires, plus the roof rack over say a Limited. Not sure I'd ever expect the two to match gas mileage.

Trd pro (10k miles) hitting around 17-18 mpg right now with almost daily winter warm ups, mixed town and 75mph highway driving. Last summer /fall I was averaging 20-21

Interesting EPA perspective....

I've provided some detailed data before and have more to share now.
Caveat: In my previous analysis I incorrectly calculated my milage with bigger tires based on size of 285/70R18 (33.7") Toyo A/T III that I ordered. But it turns out the shop put on 285/75R18 (34.8"). Yea, I'm running "35s" on my almost stock TRD ORP (1.25" Peak leveling kit; crash bracket removed). So the upshot is that my milage delta based on tires was not as bad as I thought. More analysis after the data...

So... after about 10 months and just under 12,000 miles my total overall lifetime MPG including decrements for larger tires is about 19.5.

With stock tires and air dam I averaged about 21.5 MPG over 6422 miles. Second best tank was 24.4 MPG. (Best was 25.5 but that was only 8.5 gallons and was inadvertently topped all the way off so doesn't really count). Worst tank after break in was 19.2 which included 30 miles in 4 LO and about 100 miles in 4 HI.

With 67# 285/75R18 Toyo A/T IIIs I averaged about 17.5 MPG over 5564 (adj) miles (including a bunch of time in LO4 on trails). Best Tank: 19.7 MPG mostly highway. Worst tank: 15.6 MPG when it was below zero F most of the tank.

The cold weather has a HUGE impact on MPG for the Hybrid because when its cold the engine never shuts off so burning fuel even if just idling. The difference when temps get above 40 F or so and engine starts to shut down and hybrid traction motor does more work is significant.

FWIW, I've swapped back to OEM tires this past weekend and will put the air dam back on before a trip on Saturday. At this point its as much for the science experiment and data collection to contribute to this thread as anything. (But I sure do like seeing those 24 MPG tanks that happen on occasion).

Thanks for the data points. The cold does seem to have a huge impact. Now that it is warming up I am seeing better mpg. I bought my 4runner at beginning of winter and saw a lot of 17-18 mpg. Now I am seeing a

Thanks for the experiment and the data :) I am seeing better mpg now that it is warming up. I bought my 4runner beginning of winter and saw around 18mpg stock through the winter. 17.5mpg isn't so bad for 35s!
