Oil Change at 1000 miles, cost = $254. Is this right?

Walmart. They are the cheapest, for oil, in my opinion. Mobil1 is about $26 for the jug. And they have the factory filter

$88 here in Hampton Roads of Virginia. If I were you, I would contact the manager of that shop and just share with him that they may gotten you this time, but you will never be back and you will be sure to share with everyone you know how much of a greedy, rip off artist your particle service advisor was. If he, the manager, cares about what you tell him, he will try to make it right with you.

Our Dealer gave us included oil changes every 8000km and said I got you when I came in at 2500km to do an oil change.

Just saying,

Haven’t hit my break in oil change yet, but I noticed buying a 6qt pack of 0w-20 from my dealership in GA is $35 vs $70 for the 0w-8 (and that is discounted as an online pickup order, retail price is $96). So just in the oil alone you’d probably save a chunk if they used the correct one (not $150 worth but some). I’d take it back on that alone because the 0w-8 is going to have a lot lower high temp viscosity and if you’re doing any long trips or mountain roads in socal/other western states I would be worried about the temp.

I believe that 0W8 is for a Prius and hybrids. Small
Motors.
You’re right the 0w-8 is typically for Toyota’s super-fuel-efficient engines but wanted to add: we have the hybrid engine and it also specs 0w-20 so should be the same oil hybrid or not when it comes to the 4Runner.

Took my TRD ORP for break-in oil change at my cost at Toyota Walnut Creek in California. Was shell shocked at the cost $254.21. Apparently they now use a 0W8 oil at $21/quart for 6 quarts and $103 for labor plus filter cost. This seems crazy expensive. What are others paying for oil change and filter?

95 just 5 minutes ago at my local garage. Dealerships are too far away.

I went to my local dealer at 1,200 and paid $95 for oil, filter and labor. You got ripped off for sure. I would not only tell the Service Manager but also the General Manager, the Owner and Toyota.

I was able to renegotiate below $100 and they put in the correct 0-20w oil. However, very concerned about the integrity of the dealership of where I purchased the 4Runner.

Oil changes should never cost that much. My local Toyota dealership has a special right now for $199.99 for 4 oil changes & tire rotations.

You are (unfortunately) being hit by California tax and gouging.

One month ago, I got everything I needed from a Toyota dealer:

Oil Filter - Part Number: 90915-YZZN1
0W20 Oil - 6 quarts - Part Number: 00279-0WQTE-6S
5 x Oil Drain Plug Gaskets - Part Number: 90430-12031

Including tax - less than $50

What a rip off!! that's BS big time....
Luckily I got to use both of Toyota care oil changes already and I'm only @ 8K ish.
Dealer's trying to rob clients on their first experience because " it's not maintenance schedule" is absurd !
The sales rep I saw last time totally agreed that if my truck was his, he would not be waiting 10K for the oil changes, specially the first one.... The just pass the bill to Toyota and done... after that you pay and that's that. Simple.

I believe this is your sign to find another dealership for maintenance, if you choose to continue dealer service at all.

Oil changes are typically included as part of the complimentary ToyotaCare maintenance plan that comes with the purchase or lease of a new 2025 Toyota 4Runner. This plan covers routine oil and filter changes, along with other services like tire rotations and multi-point inspections, for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • ToyotaCare: Every new Toyota, including the 2025 4Runner, comes with ToyotaCare.

  • Coverage: ToyotaCare covers normal factory-scheduled maintenance, which includes oil and filter changes.

  • Duration: This coverage lasts for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

  • Other Services: In addition to oil changes, ToyotaCare also covers tire rotations and multi-point vehicle inspections.

  • No Cost: These services are provided at no cost to the owner.

  • Flexibility: While Toyota recommends certain intervals (e.g., 10,000 miles for oil changes), you can choose to use the complimentary oil changes at other intervals if preferred.
