went and tested the subs in my platinum here is the sound clips.

1st clip : 2025 4R Platinum rear bias full bass
2nd clip : 2025 4R Platinum center bias full bass
3rd clip : 2023 Tundra Platinum rear bias full bass
4th clip : 2023 Tundra Platinum center bias full bass

you can definitely tell the difference in bass punch in the rear on the tundra vs the 4R and center is even more dramatic

Your recordings aren't going to record and/or reproduce the subwoofer frequencies.

You cannot truly capture or play back subwoofer levels over the internet, because:
1. Most mics don’t record true sub-bass (below ~40 Hz) accurately.
2. Most phones/laptops don’t play sub-bass.
3. Internet audio compression (YouTube, TikTok, etc.) often rolls off anything very low.

Use a real microphone that captures low frequencies
Record in the listening position, not near the subwoofer
Use a track with sustained bass
Upload in a format that doesn’t kill the bass
YouTube and TikTok recompress audio heavily.

Use Dropbox / Google Drive upload of WAV or FLAC

What won’t work (common mistakes)
Recording with a phone
Putting mic next to subwoofer
Uploading only to YouTube

invalid comparison because completely different audio source between 4Runner and Tundra.
huh? you do realize i am using the same radio station for both audio sources. cant use the phone for an audio source since i cant record video and streaming audio at the same time. but whatever.

sure what ever if you want valid comparisons from everyone on the forums, i dont see that happening. not everyone is going to go out and buy that stuff you expect to get a comparison to your requirements.

good luck with your data compilation. might as well remove everyones post since they didnt use a valid measuring device to validate the survey.

just trying to help in the easiest way people can. i am not going out my way to put any effort in this.

personally the stereo is the least of my concerns. 95% of the time i dont even listen to the stereo going to/from work or even around town. i prefer to have no radio/music on anyway. the only time i do listen to the head unit its to hear the local radio station give out road reports/closures or they closed the base down for weather for non essential.

(funny part the wife hates it i drive with no music, drives her nuts)

and when i do go on long trips, i just start up a good audio book and just listen to that or some podcast, or youtube review of an interest i have. so in reality i really dont benefit much for a upgraded stereo.

yeah i know i paid for it, but that was just a side effect of the other features that i wanted.

After seeing this thread. Wish I had tested it beforehand, but kinda assumed it’s not a thing to test lol
Sorry, bud. I really believe mine system was working fine when I bought it but at some point petered out without me realizing it immediately. I started playing with the EQ settings & realized that I was being cheated on rear speaker bass.

I feel this is a problem also. Ive noticed the sub was very soft from day one of purchase. My audio settings is all max on low mid and high. Thats the only way I could get the system to sound mediocre. Ive worked at a stereo shop for many years a long time ago when stereos were a big thing. The lower sub frequencies lack big time in the 4runner. Its so bad I even tried to stuff the sub box with polyfill. It did help to get lower frequencies but, the volume is still too low. I wish there was a sub level through the audio unit. I am going to compare my system with other vehicles when I have a chance and if there is a difference I will try get to the bottom of it. But, if its all the same toyota will say its a characteristic of the vehicle and not do nothing. The only way they will look into it is if there are massive complaints generated to TAS. Meaning if a tech has no information they create a TAS case and a TAS agent or engineer will look into it. But the only way to get a change is there needs to be alot of TAS cases generated for the same issue. Thats how all TSB's get created.

I will follow this thread and respond if I find anything.

I have also matted and foamed various parts on the vehicle to try getting the system to sound better and quieter. The rears on our vehicle resonate alot over bumps.

Remember, its stock...dont expect a thump.

I didnt hear much at first either because the front speaker was so overpowering. Move the listening area back a couple of notches, Turn up the bass and try again. See if that helps.
It's probably there... just crappy due to the fact that its a 7" tiny sub.

The rear speakers are 4". You'll never hear bass out of them no matter what you do.

If I move the fader to the rear a couple of notches, I can barely hear anything.

I'm not expecting Skar sub levels of bass, but there isn't more than a faint whisper coming out of my subwoofer or rear door woofers (the tweets high in the back doors seem to work okay though).

4" speakers' realistic low-end limit: around 80–120 Hz. Where it starts rolling off hard: below 100 Hz. What it cannot do well: deep bass (40–60 Hz), sub-bass (<40 Hz)

A 7" car subwoofer like in the Premium's JBL can produce usable bass ~45–50 Hz and up. You will hear bass, decent output 50–80 Hz, good mid-bass punch, sub-bass (feel-it bass) <40 Hz is possible, but limited, “home theater rumble” (<30 Hz) mostly no

Use a higher quality source (like Apple Music (lossless, high-resolution) and play the exact same audio when comparing the 4Runner to the Tundra.

does anyone have buzzing noise from their jbl speakers (any of them) when the audio is muted? you can hear it if the cabin is really quiet or putting your ear up close to the speakers
