Not a lot of space. 2 1/2 inches.
If you replaced the board with plywood/MDF and had a support in the middle, you could get another inch. The board is a hard foam that is quite thick. I didn't measure, just going by looks.

Here are the stl files.
I have included two files for the bracket. One with a simple hole and the other with a slot. The screw is okay if you print it horizontally. You may have to chase the threads with a die depending on your printer setup.

If you don't trust the screw, source one on amazon or get a wing-bolt and use the bracket with the hole.
Amazing, thank you!

Regardless of the well below the floor, I have to think there's a lot of dead air space inside the big wasted outgrowth of interior plastic that Toyota created just to accommodate cupholders for the small number of 4runners that have a 3rd row kiddie seat. On both sides.

Using a zoomed portion of Vincenzo's photo:

Where the cup holders are, it looks like these could pop off. If some could make a replacement piece that has a flat top, possibly higher with a flip up door to store smaller items. Maybe combined with a liner so items don‘t fall where they couldn’t be reached.

How much space is under there? Would be an interesting place to put some audio amplifiers.
As someone who is looking for a space to put an amp, I'm curious if you tried this. My only concern with mounting an amp in there is the lack of airflow.

So in my most expert testing :) I've measured the maximum height in there to be 2.25 inches. Good enough for an amp, but still wondering about the airflow.

In my Charger I had two amps under the spare tire cover, although there was more airspace I never had overheating issues. This was with 3000 watt RMS of power. Its worth a shot at least, make sure the amp has thermal protection (it will simply shut off) and send it.

In any case, first I'll just wire up the amp with extra wires and mount it on the side wall, then see if this idea is actually a good one once the components are there.

for all the peeps saying I wonder if there is wasted space under those
side cupholders well ffs just yank them out and see...it's trivial to pop them off

and yes there is a ton of space in there, but also a lot of specifically
shaped sheet metal and welds, so you need to be inventive to use it all

best bet imho is ignore it and don't consider using it

Anyone know what that black wire and sensor(?) is in the middle there?

middle sensor is keyfob locator, so it knows if key is
inside, and if in front seats or back seats. there are three
inside antennas to locate precise key fob position(s)
Too bad they didn't design the sensors so I don't have to stand under the liftgate for it to close.

That looks like a perfect opportunity for someone to design and 3D print some useable inserts for both sides.
