That SUCKS! Good luck with the insurance company, play hardball with them.Hey group. Had one of the most heartbreaking days of my life. I was up in Toronto for a week. And on the 2nd day I woke up to my 4Runner missing. It was stolen. They seemed to have known what they were doing. They disabled the tracking and created their own key. Toyota safety connect ain’t worth a damn. No real hope of being retrieved. I put a lot of work into my 4Runner with after market parts. But sadly in hindsight I didn’t put in the most important. A kill switch or some aftermarket antitheft system. Come to find out they are pretty easy to steal. I had no idea my car was missing until I walked to the parking lot. No notification nothing and when I checked tracking it was still saying it was in the lot but hadn’t been updated in 9 hours.
Thankfully. I had an AirTag in my backpack and was able to locate all my stuff dumped out on the side of the road 30 mins outside of town. Unfortunately no car. But I was able to get all my stuff minus some camera gear/drone. And my passport that was in the glove box. Also found one of my windows and and my dashboard and glove box and my pop out speaker from the car lol
Hopefully my insurance doesn’t try and give me a run around because this sucks. Anyway just posting this to give yall a heads up on investing in an aftermarket antitheft system. IGLA looks to be what I will invest in on my next 4Runner. And also never taking my car to Canada again.

You can't really have an OBD-II port lock doing its job while also having the Ring camera plugged into that same port. And I wouldn't put too much confidence in either one as theft prevention. Most OBD port locks are primarily another obstacle; depending on the design, someone who knows what they're dealing with may be able to access the wiring/connector from behind the lower dash anyway.
The thieves are/were near by, they amplified the keyfob signal that is constantly broadcasting...basically spoofed the keyfob. You can turn off your keyfob when not in use ie: parked at hotel or restaurant etc, stops sending signal continuously. Or have a small faraday bag to toss your keyfob in.... Only way to prevent this. I had a friend in Austin had his raptor stolen from driveway he tracked it found it at apartment complex outside Austin..Austin PD did nothing, he found it the next day in a river. Had to pay to get it out, totaled. Police will do nothing for a stolen vehicle these days.
That's going to do apsolutely nothing. These cars are so in demand they will cut through the steering wheel in 5 seconds and take it. If you're coming to Toronto/Montreal DO NOT bring your truck. If you apsolutely have to leave it overnight remove fuses from the fuse box. It's your only chance and they may still tow it out of here. Things are apsolutely out of control here. I'm actually considering getting rid of mine even though it's always locked up in the garage overnight.
