So im building my parts list up so when my TRD Off Road Premium delivers i can outfit the thing in 1 weekend with my goodies.

I decided on swapping out the factory suspension to the same suspension on the TRD Pro model. When i went down to the dealer to get pricing the woman at the counter outright refused to give me the price because i didn't own a TRD Pro 4Runner.

I thought she was joking and proceeded to lean against the counter waiting until she looked at me with disgust as if she thought i was trying to get her number. I then asked her if she was serious and she noted it was not a joke.

Total refusal to give me a price, wouldn't order it for me or even entertain looking it up because i didn't have a VIN to prove i owned one.

Is this a new policy from Toyota? Is this dealer just being difficult or are we needing to start doing black market TRD Pro transactions?

i had the complete opposite experience. I ordered online through my local dealer for pick up (i believe you can do the same thing, you dont have to order through someone) and they called me panicked saying I ordered the wrong part and theyd help me order the right one (I have an SR5 and ordered the Trailhunter grille). I explained to them i meant to order the TH grille and they told me they just wanted to make sure I wasnt dissapointed when I picked it up and told me to have a good day.

This has been my experience as well. the Gen 6 I have on order is my 3rd new Toyota. my last one i essentially re branded to a Pro and put a tone of Pro parts on it from the dealer and they never refused this.

Glad to hear its not some new policy. Ill have to ask around at other dealers.

And this is why I only deal with online dealers. My local dealer does the same thing and charges about 25% more.

It's almost always cheaper to order online, I've had two different dealers steer me away from the parts counter and told me to just order it from their website instead to save money. Gresham Toyota does free shipping anywhere in the US too.

I know someone that has been a Toyota parts guy for 30 years. I wanted a TRD grill for my Tundra. They were giving him a hard time ordering it. They wanted a VIN as well. This was back in 2017.

It really is a dealer by dealer experience. Some have no issues, some do. But Toyota, I believe, does require them to provide a VIN. How enforceable that is, I don't know. But this has been the case for years.

The problem is that these are all new vehicles and parts are still somewhat limited. They're still trying to build the Pros fast enough to keep up with waitlists. Therefore, for the time being, they are being more strict because they may need the parts for actual PRO owners. Once there are more in circulation, they will relax the policy, just like they did for the 5th gens. It's a supply concern.

Why TRD Pro OEM Supension and not aftermarket? The suspension is NOT that great. I’m removing mine.

I agree with this question. If you are going to be adding armor and gear, you'll want to upgrade the coils anyway, so why not just go with weight/use specific aftermarket suspension anyway?

From the little bit of research I have done, I would look at Dobinson. I just ordered new coils, rear spacer, billet UCAs, and bump stops from them in addition to front spacers from Westcott.

I hear ya and can understand why people might question my choice. The reasoning is due to my experience on replacements and maintenance in the past on my Gen 5.

I want to be able to stop at any dealer in Canada if i have a issue and know that i can get parts in 3 days max (usually faster). Sticking to the factory system i am able to accomodate a faster recovery if i have a massive failure on the road.

I have gone through 2 sets of suspension on my previous rig while on the road and on one of those occasions it left me with a sitting fee on a lift and nearly 2 weeks of my truck out of commission till the replacement parts from the after market supplier were delivered.

Staying factory i am sacrificing some suspension quality i agree, but i am gaining reliability in replacement and getting back on the road should an issue occur.

The Fox system from my reading is quality regardless, the reviews i have seen as well with its limits pushed were more then adequate for what I will be doing. I am also going with an airbag system in the rear for aded stability and lift on tow so between that and the factory FOX, i think i will be just fine.

Beside ordering from Toyota dealer online, any other recommended/reputable Toyota online parts?
