Currently Everest is my top choice, but test drove a '25 Ice Cap and the storm trooper look was really vibing for me. Underground is also in the mix.

Subaru has notoriously soft paint and Texas roads are terrible for rock chips. I got my Outback ceramic coated at a local place for $2000 when I got it and it has held up well. I know ceramic isn't stopping rock chips, would need PPF, but the paint still looks great.

Question, how are your Everest and Ice Caps holding up? Did y'all do any ceramic or PPF. Or do we just not care because these are off road vehicles.

Don't think I've ever heard anyone say how good any of the Toyota Paints are. I had small chips the first week I owned mine.

We have another Toyota in our family and it has the white with black trim storm trooper estetics. Never been a huge fan of white cars, but I have to admit that one looks good. Also, white is probably the best color if you're concerned about rock chips.

That said, I know my Everest 4Runner will get chips and get scratched up, I'm mentally prepared for it. Not too worried, will eventially get some touch up paint to cover up any primer or bare metal. Not interested in putting plastic on top of the paint, just like I don't put seat covers on the seats. The 4Runner will get its battle scars after a while, just like its owner...

SR5 here. Picked up 2 hours after the truck. Delivered it. The dealer “detailed it” despite me telling them not to.
The paint is like a 3 year old car that has been is a car was every week. Swirls, dings and scratches.

I have a 20 year old truck that has a better paint look. I am not exaggerating.
This is one of the reasons I am leaning towards a non- Asian brand truck purchase soon.

If you could I would PPF the front. Mine came with PPF installed from the port.

Black paint here. Chips down to primer already. Going to patch and ppf. I can imagine a respray in a couple of years. It’s that bad. Had detailed get alll the swirls out from dealer when I picked it up. My ram and bmw paint is far superior sadly.

I did have Xpel PPF applied on the front three weeks after purchase. It would have been sooner but the shop was busy. The front is so flat and from previous vehicles, I know it's going to get hammered with rocks. $780 just for the front, not the hood.

I then added a Husky Aeroskin Hood Protector. I traditionally disliked hood protectors but this one is very low profile and very similar color to all the upfront black trim. That should protect the edge and maybe deflect some rocks from hitting the windscreen. Much cheaper that PPF on the hood. I just saw they have one with an integrated light bar too. Install was easy and really, it looks good in my opinion.

I believe you 100% the clear coat on these is softer than butter....
Hand washed only so far and no swirls, but rock chips on doors, and silly scratches I made by breathing on it....
OP I would go with Ice cap if scratches will bother you....Otherwise EVEREST is an amazing color.
If you got the extra $$$ go with full PPF right after dealer pick up...
I've' come to terms that in years from now this ting will look worse that my 3rd gen did after 25 years of good use....
I only did a partial 18" hood clear. PPF...

If you can afford it PPF the whole dang thing. I had a 2020 Highlander we traded in for the 4Runner and it looked brand new on the front end thanks to PPF... 4runner 11k miles in has 2 or 3 rock chips

I have a black Pro and the paint is horrible. It was delivered with scratches all of the hood the swirls over the rest of the body. The dealer paid for the hood to be repainted and a full body paint correction after that, to the tune of close to $2k. It was better, but still not good and I promptly got a full XPEL Stealth PPF treatment to keep me from going crazy. Love it!

I did not do any paint protection on my ORP. I had BlueRunner 1 for 18 years and now plan to keep BlueRunner 2 for probably 12 to 15. Dings, dents and scratches are just going to happen. The $5K I would have spend on PPF/CC will appreciate to $15-$25K in 15 years, which more than make up for the small loss in resale value. Drawback is that I will be driving a vehicle that looks progressively bad (or good depending on your point of view) while others will be driving nice and shine runners for years to come. To each his own I guess.

This is disappointing to hear as a prospective owner. My 2012 Wrangler which has been through all sorts of conditions literally has only three paint chips. The paint on that thing seems to be an inch thick!
Of course I have issues that had nothing to do with paint, but at least they got the paint part right!

NOTE OF ADVICE : never run one of these through a carwash unless you want swirls everywhere.

After reading more of the comments it confirmed my theory. I implored the dealer to leave the truck as it came off the ship. "Are you sure? we only hand wash them" they said... I did not want to risk it..... The abided by it and so far I only hand washed it a few times and once it's dry, it looks spotless (so far with a collection of other scratches I made..)
No swirls anywhere.

I have Everest and while I wouldn't say the paint is hard like my BMW, it's ten times better than the black was on my 22 Tacoma. A couple rock dings from being off road, but that will happen regardless. No scratches or swirls yet despite frequent washing, though I did put a slick spray coating on day 1 (Griots 3 in 1 ceramic) and always use a drying aid when washing. Honestly I've been happy that the paint is noticeably better than earlier Toyotas I've had.
