toyota went the cheap route to save some money since 70-80% of the buyers will never not be a pavement princess.

personally i will never see un-paved roads or un-maintained dirt roads to go fishing.

since toyota got rid of the bump stops and went with a shock top tower incorporated bump stop (and trust me, it doesnt take too much mild/heavy off roading to blow out the shock tower --- see tacoma's that this has happened to already lookup "tacoma front shock top hat failure" ---)

the bump stops prevents you blowing out your shocks or deforming critical components attached to your wheel housing

the tacoma and 4R/LC250 use different top hats. the 4R/LC250 are steel.

A lesson I learned quite painfully in the middle of nowhere

that failure wasn't caused by a tophat. the tophat is steel with a big steel insert for the shock shaft. the top nut on the shock shaft appears to have backed itself off or sheared off.

Now I am curious if it is going to limit the up travel.
We will test this with our forklift when the weather is nicer. You do want to slightly limit uptravel, that is the point so that you aren't collapsing the shock on itself on large hits. Aftermarket bumpstops are typically taller than OEM so that you get more progressive engagement. The factory LC250 bumpstop is very small and engagement would be jarring.

I've tested on some local roads close to my house that cause large front suspension cycles and am currently getting minimal imprint from the bumpstop on the LCA. I do not expect a significant decrease in uptravel.
