Mine was indicating 16 miles left today before I filled it up. If I recall correctly, it’s a 19 gallon tank. It took right at 15 gallons for the fill up, so I had plenty left!

What octane are people using? I've been running 93, and consistently get 24 mpg, peaking at 30.1 on the logging roads of the mountains of Maine

I use 87 and I get between 23-24mpg

Do you notice a significant performance improvement at 93?

Absolutely. If you can afford it, try it. Any turbo runs much better. I think the manual says you can use 87, but that reminds me of the manual for my 2023 Tacoma, that said to change the oil every 10k.

If you want good gas mileage you will need to leave truck stock. I mean, ride on OEM spec tires, no lift, no roof rack load bars, front spoiler left on. AND most importantly drive no faster than 65 mph.

It is a very painful choice.

the only big diff you get between 87 and 91/93 is the retard on timing is less to prevent knock on higher octane.

87 and 91/93 still has the same energy potential

Raising the octane rating (also known as the anti-knock index) doesn't change the energy content of a gallon of gasoline. A higher octane rating indicates greater resistance to knock, the early combustion of the fuel-air mixture that causes cylinder pressure to spike. When higher-octane fuel is flowing through its injectors, the engine controller can take advantage of the elevated knock threshold and dial in more aggressive timing and higher boost pressures to improve performance.
the biggest benefit is that under heavy loads its more beneficial.

but in our case, its just a daily driver for the wife and it never carries more than her or me and maybe see towing or bed load maybe once in 5-7 yrs.

Does Land Cruiser use same fuel tank? Wonder if anyone is working on a larger tank? 24/25 gallons would be awesome.

smaller tank by 1 gal (17.9) vs 4R (19.0) and req's 91 gas vs 87 4R.

but that was easy to look up on toyota's website ...

Guys. I continue to be puzzled. Do not get me wrong, I love my SR5….but when I fill up the dash shows 305 miles to empty. Is this a tank size issue or a bad reading somewhere?
My pilot V6 used to get about 420 miles to empty when the tank was full.

Am i missing anything? Forgive me if this has been answered before.

thx
Your post got me wondering so I finally recorded the data on my 4th fill up. Before the fill the dash said 28 miles to go (fuel gage was at about 1/10 tank) after having driven 362 miles. After the fill the gauge read 347 miles. And that third tank got by far the best milage to date: 22.5 MPG (mix of highway and "city". The actual miles to go based on 19 gal capacity minus the 16.07 gallons I put in @ 22.5 MPG was 66 (vs. 28 displayed). So zero miles to go on the dash would be about 2 gallons/45 miles in the tank. So, like others have experienced, I think it would easily go 400 miles on a tank if mostly highway.
Caveat: this is iForce Max so hybrid might help some but based on what I've seen the non-hybrid has a real advantage on the highway. (And for my short "city" commute I'm getting nowhere near the Hybrid quoted city MPG of 23 - more like 14:>) (but I did just get 27 MPG on a 34 mile trip - much of it going 45 on a 2 lane highway behind a slow moving trailer.)

Proof that the "miles to go" adjusts as the tank depletes: I've driven 191 miles (1407-1216) since last fill, and its now showing 184 miles left in the tank - for 375 total vs. the 347 it said right after fill. And with the expected 2 gallon (~45 miles) of reserve it should be easy to break the 400 miles/tank barrier, with a gallon or so in reserve. Hope the OP is seeing similar improvement over time.

Trip to CO from Dallas. First leg. See pic. When I filled up the tank I got just 24 plus miles on full to empty. The MPG went up but still puzzled. I will see if in my way back which will be from higher altitude to about 700 ft anything will change. Hopefully I will get better MPG due to the altitude changes.

I really dont understand this... car says "refuel" and pump stops at 16 something gallons in a 19 gallon tank??? maybe toyota left Tacoma's smaller tank size coded in software... since both cars are essentially the same.

Check out this thread: https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/thr...gas-indicator-accurate.2652/page-2#post-65870

And note that the owners manual specifies that the "Low fuel level warning light ... Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 2.8 gal. or less."
Looks like you put just over 19-2.8=16.2 gallons in. So exactly what is to be expected.

Also, your MPGs and distance to empty are kind of low, but if this is your first tank then I believe you can look forward to improvement over time - at least that is what I experienced:

Update…. Back from Colorado. I pulled 25 mpg with a 401 miles full to empty tank. So yes. It is all about resetting the mpg dial.
