thats about right. 16 gals with 3 gal margin (20%)

typically toyota keeps 10%-20% in reserve depending on size of gas tank. its to ensure you dont run out of gas and also to keep the fuel pump from over heating and burning out prematurely.

These things aren't designed to be efficient, just as efficient as they "can be" with regard to their size/driving dynamics. I've been getting 320-350/tank with a roughly 40c/60h ratio. The displayed range is probably using your last tank mpg as a marker for the new tank.

The pilot is a smidge more streamlined and has different gearing.
