Best way to get oil into the engine

Today I did first oil change (3200 mi.) Couple of things.
It was bordering on black. Most of my oil changes on other cars are usually medium to dark brown around 3000-4000 miles. I am not sure what to make of this- if anything.

My bigger question is what is the best way to get replacement oil into the engine?
The manual mentions "slowly add oil" . lmao.
Should say "add oil really, really slowly" or a lot will find its way to the driveway.

In addition, the oil fill port is restricted such that it will not hold a funnel in place.

It was quite a s__t show.

I 3d printed a screw on funnel, and just dumped oil in without thinking about it. Also my oil was pretty dark even for 1200mi, but its a turbo.

I have the funnel too.
after 25,000 miles. And a couple of oil changes I did myself between freebie dealer oil changes works great!
Also added Fumoto oil drain valve
Never going back to dealer for oil change

+1 on the screw-on funnel. With that I just flip the 1qt containers upside down in the funnel and leave them there while I open the next.

Do note that the same funnel is sold under multiple names on Amazon and at widely varying prices. Just search for "Toyota engine oil funnel" on Amazon and decide how much you feel like paying.

Yep. I just linked the one I purchased, but there are a bunch of them. Helps out even more on my lifted Tundra lol.

You're right, that is a perfect funnel, I've been using one for both of my Toyotas for years. You're not going to spill a drop.

I have a similar funnel but it's a spring loaded clamping funnel. You just squeeze a handle and the sides move in. Once in place you let go of the handle and it grips the threads for the oil cap. It also can be angled so if the oil fill hole is at an angle you don't have to deal with the funnel being tilted. It also has ridges in it to make the oil swirl as it goes down the funnel. No name on it though so I can't tell you where to buy one.

Save money just cut an empty oil jug and use it as a funnel it screws in perfectly on the oil fill up save the cap too

Funnel is the only way to go. The jug thing is a good idea.
That truck up on ramps makes it impossible to finesse anything under the hood. Got to be on a stool etc, etc.
Bought a filter removal tool. Well made with tight tolerances.
Probably could drive over it.
Definitely a forever tool, until they change the filter.

This has to be a troll. Is this really a question? How do you not know how to pour oil without spilling? Its not a difficult task. Pour, watch flow, adjust flow, continue pouring. You can also simply hold a standard funnel while pouring into the funnel. Shocked and amazed! Heat and contaminants will change the color of the oil. It's normal, especially on a new vehicle with machining debris still in the system. What goes in is not the same as what comes out. If you're concerned about dark oil, send it to Blackstone for analysis.
