I just replaced the engine air filter (17801-0P051) and cabin air filter (87139-0C010) on my '25 ORP at 8 months, 7600 miles.

Engine air filter looked OK, just a few small bugs, but pretty clean.

I was surprised at how dirty the cabin air filter was. Dark, some leaves and a lot of dust shook off.

Gonna replace the Hybrid battery air filters when they're ready for pickup.

Thank you for posting this. It's very helpful as I'm approaching 7,500 miles myself with mine. My plan has been to replace the engine air filter & cabin air filter every 10,000 miles but after seeing this I'll probably change the cabin filter every 6,500-7,500 miles.

Looks like Toyota uses a cheap, non-charcoal enhanced one for the cabin filter?

Wix offers this one - WIX WP10652 - but it's rather expensive for charcoal + microban anti biological coating.

I've seen some people say that the charcoal infused, antimicrobial cabin filters are really dense & hinder air flow making the A/C system work harder & reducing the amount of air from the vents.
Do you use these types of filters in your vehicle & what has been your experience with them?

Replaced my air filter and cabin with K&N’s. Been working great for me, it actually feels like the hvac blower is a little stronger than when I took delivery. Getting those extra pony’s where I can I guess lol 🤷‍♂️

Have heard this about house hvac systems, but not for cars.

All of my German cars going back to 2007 have used this type of filter, and I also use it in my wife's Honda.

Should have no effect, other than reducing the outside odors and allergens.

The basic paper filter is comical if you ask me.

The landlord at the building I work in upped their heat pump filters to MERV 13 when reopening after Covid to try and ease some folks' stress and all it did was cause them to freeze up due to reducing airflow. Seems like that situation could translate to automobiles. Meaning any decrease of airflow might increase the workload on the A/C system. Might not see an issue immediately, but in the long run you could be causing compressors problems that could otherwise be avoided. But hey, I'm no auto mechanic!

Toyota has a carbon filter cabin filter. It's not the stock filter, which is in my picture. I have it on order. Part number: 87139-30110

Not if you replace your filters regularly, just like on your home HVAC system.

Thanks for letting us know! I may try that one moving forward. If Toyota offers it then it likely won't cause problems or void the warranty if the A/C breaks.

Have you looked at yours, or just jumping in feet first after seeing one guys photo?

I've not looked at mine yet but I'm all about being proactive rather than reactive with the maintenance & changing things. I need this 4Runner to last me for 15-20 years if I can help it.
I live in a large Texas city where there is always dust, dirt & construction going on. I also freeway drive 45 miles to work 3-4 days a week. So I imagine it wouldn't hurt to change my filters early & often.
