I did my first long trip in the 4R. It was cold, a little windy. I was travelling between 65-80 for the trip. I kept hearing a crackling noise, like someone crushing a potato chip bag. I know other click and pops have been happening in the vehicle which is disappointing. I am still trying to isolate and find them but this one is new.

I asked the passenger who has better hearing than me and she said it was the wipers.

I checked the wiper arms at a gas stop and found they had good spring tension in the middle but the wipers at each end look like they could be being lifted and hit back down.

Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue?

When I get time, I will try to replicate but then stop, put a long woolly sock on each wiper and drive again. If its the wipers making the noise, the sock should mute that noise.

Thanks in advance......

My front airdam was loose on one side, missing one screw. Now I wonder would that movement create a clicking noise.

I will test when the weather is better.
Thanks

could be the hood itself. have read somewhere where the hood wasnt touching the stowed position pads and was bouncing/shifting and you couldnt tell by looking at the hood during driving

Not saying that this is what yours is, but on my 02 Silverado, I had this exact sound. Like a wrapper or like bugs constantly tapping the windshield.

Turns out, it was my bug shield messing with the airflow over the hood/into the windshield. The sound was the windshield surround fluttering on the left and right sides of the windshield. Since I could pull it up like 1/4 inch pretty easily, I just ran a bead of urethane under it and fixed the issue. Could have also just removed the bug shield/deflector, but i did a lot of highway driving and those things do make a pretty big difference.

Anyway, something to check.
