TH premise was long distance overlanding and to get the air intake above ground level to keep dust out from dusty trails, the TRD Pro was built around the high speed desert runners which normall dont need a snorkel

edit : dont assume the snorkel is water tight, it wasnt built for fording

It's not a snorkel. It is a remote air intake (RAI). Definitely not made for water fording.

You can add the same RAI to the TRDPro. Just buy the TH fender (air intake precut) to replace, paint it etc etc

Fender - Toyota (53811-35450)
2025 Toyota 4Runner - 5381135450

Something something dust. Probably for whatever reason they decided gloss black accents were good for one of the most off-road-focused trims. Also the Pro is a much more of a volume product, and I bet the consumer demographics don't love RAIs.

That sounds way to simple. You must buy or modify existing fender. Buy all duct work buy a new airbox or mod existing. The windshield must be cut out for the pillar mounts. Just not worth it for virtually zero gain.

I would only buy a snorkel if it were water tight and I don’t think I’ve found a single one for 6g4r on the market.

Lets be honest. It's just for looks. The number of people actually will use it as intended are few. If you want the look then just buy the external parts. Maybe in the southwest desserts it's useful but in New England dust just isn't an issue but they still sell TH here. The real question should be why doesn't Toyota make it optional for both the Pro and TH? Simply put the TH fender on both models and make a trim plate that covers it up if the option isn't included. Or, better yet, make it a dealer installed option. I might have thought about a TH but that fake snorkel made me eliminate it.

I'm super happy the pro doesn't come with one. I've seen people paying 1k+ just to have it removed from the TH. If you like it thats great, just like I like the Pro hood. Just glad we get options with the TH vs the Pro.

You can, I've seen quite a few Pro's with snorkels on forums, it's an option. Unless your extremely lucky, your probably going to have a long wait on that.

It's not a fake snorkel.
Toyota references it as a high mount intake and it's engineered to reduce dust intake when off-roading.
It makes perfect sense for where I live (in the southwest).
People calling it a snorkel and thinking that it's meant for water fording are just plain wrong and misunderstanding the engineering.

It's not a snorkel as much as it is just a higher air inlet. The airbox isn't sealed and the primary inlet at the front of the box is still open, so it's no more safe for water fording and dusty roads than without.

Because of this, I'd argue that it's there primarily for looks.

That said, the Trailhunter is as it's name implies. It was intended for "adventure seeking" trail junkies who are crawling lower speed obstacles, particularly nature trails and off-road parks.

The TRD Pro is the opposite.

Spend a day with buddies on a dusty trail out west and you'll see the value of getting cleaner air into your intake.

Or remove the air filter and blow out the dust at the end of each day.
