@208mutt-runner sorry to read about your transmission issues. How many miles did you drive it after you experienced the clunk?

I went about 12 miles home and then 2 miles to the dealer the next morning.

I see. What you described happened to my 6th Gen. I have a 26 hybrid, purchased in January. I drove <1 mile between occurrence and it being serviced at the dealer. They drained/refilled my transmission and wasn't able to reproduce the issue, but they did find my fluid level to be short ~ 1 quart.

It hasn't occurred since then. The transmission still sucks though. It feels like I'm running over small animals when at slow speeds.

Yeah...it def needs a tune. really surprised they did not iron that out before releasing for sale. $650 tune will iron it out.

I used to get a clunk when shifting from 1st to 2nd uphill. To eliminate this I now use manual shifting to stay longer in 1st, shift to 2nd later than auto would and turn back to auto shifting in 3rd.

Got my rig back today after 3 weeks. They did provide me with a loaner 4 runner while I waited. Posting a picture of the techs notes for reference. In the end they replaced the transmission, torque converter and hybrid module. All of which had “foreign matter” found in them.

I took it on a drive tonight on the freeway, some backroads highway and stop lights through town. I know I am ultra tuned into how it feels, but honestly I think it feels better than it did prior to failure (and better than the non hybrid loaner I had the last few weeks). There was always a bit of unsmooth shifting, especially from 1st to 2nd and I just thought it was normal and how this car drives. That seems to be all but gone now. Need to give it a few more days, but I am thinking something wasn’t quite right with mine from the get go.

just know it will take a few weeks or longer for the computers to re-learn your driving habits.

I’ve put about 600 miles in since getting the car back last week including a trip to hells canyon and back. Still isn’t the smoothest shifting thing but I think that’s just how it is with these. No big issues and no odd clicks or awkward shifts. Fingers crossed it’ll be a reliable vehicle from here on out!
