If they paid me $8 a month, I still wouldn't. They've already been sued for selling personally identifiable customer/driver data directly to insurance companies.

Datamining and privacy nightmare. No thanks.

I would think if you have remote connect and it sees your location that they could apply a location based policy to allow people in those unrestricted areas more time. I already think it the app blocks vpn work arounds.
its not app based. if you remote start via the fob, the same rules applied. 2 remote starts then the vehicle requires an open door to reset the counter. doenst matter if its the app or the fob.

@4R-Sport it takes me 3 or 4 times to get the fob to work. My thumb doesn't seem to be able master the sequence. The other thing is that the fob only works when you're a few feet away.
Yes, the "1-2-3 hold" sequence takes a little practice but you'll get it. I agree with you, the fob has terrible range when compared to my older vehicles.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but after a year and half and 45,000 miles I don't think there's any hope for me lol

Basically what the title says. The minimum for having remote start from the app used to be $15 a month but now it's only $8 a month. For me that was enough to enable it for Wisconsin and Canadian winters. We'll see how long it takes Toyota to raise the price...
That’s great news! I definitely need to reactivate mine. I tried reconnecting the services through the Toyota app a while back, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it. How did you guys reactivate yours? Is there a way to subscribe again directly through the app? I’d appreciate any help. Thanks!

Well I went through some of these comments and I might have missed my one and only question is; will I be prorated moving forward. Meaning will I be charged $8 moving forward. I don't really care about the last month's charge. Just moving forward.

When you go into what I think is the main page of the app underneath the picture of your truck will be an info button. Tap the info button and then another page will open up and you'll see subscriptions. Tap on subscriptions and that's where you can subscribe. At the bottom of that page they'll be an ad Services button.

Would have to check to see what they migrated your sub to. Before it was the Drive Connect + Remote package for $15 or the Streaming + Remote package for also $15. Now there is just Remote for $8 or Premium (which includes Drive Connect + Streaming + Remote) for $15. I would assume they just migrated you to the latter, but you should be able to find that pretty quick in the Toyota app under Shop > Manage Subscriptions.

This is awesome.
I use remote start via the app multiple times a day but it really irked me to be paying $15 a month for it. Just canceled my existing subscription and then resubscribed at $8 a month.
Love it.

The part about sending your info to their insurance partners is something you have to opt in to when signing up. You can choose to not accept those terms and still sign up for connected services.

I normally just use the three button push on the key fob for remote start but what else do you get for your 8 bucks a month? Is this the same app that will allow you to remotely lock your vehicle or tells you if your window is open?

For anyone who has been paying for a combined plan and "downgrading" to the remote connect only here is my experience. I added the remote connect only plan for $8 hoping to just cancel my drive connected plan. It wouldn't let me, was like there was a button missing. The next day it automatically shows the old plan expiring on the normal date and the new cheaper plan as auto renewal. Shouldn't have to do anything more.

I'm also shocked at how many folks will pay XXX money for a rig and not add a couple more bucks to have the features. Its not just remote start, it lets you lock the doors remotely, check location, vehicle status, etc. You're not paying for the feature itself, you're paying for the cell signal to make it all work.

If you're fine remote starting with your fob, or not remote starting at all then great, don't pay for the service. If they would have added it to the cost of the rig and charged you if you didn't use it you'd still complain. I personally love the features and not when I'm in my house getting ready to leave. More so when I'm on my way to my rig, or just left it, and want to start it, make sure its locked, make sure it is where I parked it, etc. etc. It's $8/month....

To be clear, I was waiting for my connected services sub to die so I would stop getting the annoying pop-ups for entering school zones over my Android Auto. That, I believe, is from Drive Connect. So would this Remote Connect give me the remote vehicle checks without adding back in those pop-ups?

I liked getting the unlock status and being able to lock remotely - and remote start was useful a couple times. But one of my favorite and most-used set of features was to check the odometer, gas tank levels and tire pressure. And all three of those are still available without any subscription:
2025 2026 4runner 6th gen Toyota Remote Connect is $8 per month now Screenshot_20261028_135716_Toyota

Only caveat is that the app shows only the % fuel remaining, not the Miles to Empty calculation. I kind of like the % fuel value. (Strangely, the web site Vehicle Dashboard still shows the MTE - and the % fuel showing for me is different than on the app (and wrong). And I cannot find tire pressure).

I might consider the additional features for $8/month - its tempting. But even at that low price I'm not sure its worth it since I pretty habitually tap the handle to lock the vehicle and rarely need remote start. But am glad for the change - Now that everyone's 2025 6G4R trials have expired Toyota has realized the subscriptions were overpriced.
