Not only does it block the rear view, but if you're backing up with anything on a hitch rack, ie: bike, it slams the brakes hard as soon as you start backing up. I have to disable the backup assist every single time I put the bike on the rack. I absolutely HATE this "feature"...
You can opt to leave the backup braking assist off all the time. But I tell you what when it does slam on the breaks it scares the crap out of me even if I'm expecting it.

On my gen 3 Taco I pulled the headrests off the rear seats and only put them back on when I sold the vehicle.

On my 6G4R, I’m debating removing them, however unlike my old Taco I raised the driver seat so the top of my head is about 1ā€ from the headliner. I prefer to sit higher and it’s more comfortable for me. Bonus, the headrests in the rear seat obstruct less of my view in the rear view.

Haha, I’m about 1ā€ from the headliner with the seat at the bottom…

I would take mine off in a heartbeat if my dog backseat hammock didn't need to attach to them.

trump card = digital rear view mirror :)

right now they are folded flat since day 1. dont need the 2nd row really since its just me 95% of the time and rarely the wife comes along in the 4R. we usually just take her 23 tundra since its easier for her to get in and more seat space.

right now i am contemplating just having them tumbled forward full time (im only 5.8 so not a big issue having them tumbled full time)

The digital mirror is neat, but it doesn’t mimic the optical clarity or distance of the plain mirror. It absolutely sux in anything but bright sunlight…

i didnt like it at first on the wifes 23 tundra, but after using it for 2 yrs, i like it better than the regular mirror. glare cut is way faster night time on the digital mirror than using the sensor like it was on my 2014 4R and i didnt run tint on my 2014 4R so the response time was sorely lacking on high beam nuts jobs behind me.

Does anyone else remove the second row headrests to get a "full view" from the rear view mirror? Maybe another solution is to just fold the second row down but it's nice to have them up to put smaller items there.
First day I brought my 2024 Limited home was to remove the front air dam and to pull off the back seat headrests. I was coming from my 1997 Limited which was my daily driver for 28 years which had incredible rear visibility to my new 2026 4Runner. I agree with the headrests in place it creates a dangerous situation with limited rear visibility when backing up and making lane changes.

I test drove an ORP with the digital mirror. As a glasses wearer, I felt my eyes always had to adjust too much while going between the forward and digital mirror views. Perhaps I would have adjusted, but opted to not have it.

While folding the rear seats, the outer rear head rests hit the back of the front seats. We rarely have anyone one in the back, so I removed the outer headrests which also improves visibility.

I was unable to remove our rear center headrest. It extends up, but appears to hit a hard stop rather than sliding fully out like the two outer headrests. Is there a trick to this ??

No special trick other than the usual little release you have to squeaze around the hole.

Thanks. Got it. My center headrest has a release button on BOTH rods. I was only pushing one like on the outer headrests.

It really bothered me at first and I was driving with the second row folded almost exclusively. The digital rearview felt weird because my eyes had to adjust from focusing far on what's ahead of me to focusing close on the digital rearview. But over time I've gotten used to it and actually greatly prefer it. If you're driving on wet salted roads and you're back glass is getting so dirty you can't see anything out of it then your normal rearview is useless but the digital rearview tends to stay cleaner for some reason and if it does get dirty I only need to wipe the camera lens instead of an entire window. It took some retraining of my brain to get used to it but now I love it. And being able to switch between normal mirror and digital with a simple little toggle is awesome.

I really like the feature on the camera view where I can spray washer fluid on both rear cameras!
