Second row headrests partially obstucting view in rear view mirror

Not only does it block the rear view, but if you're backing up with anything on a hitch rack, ie: bike, it slams the brakes hard as soon as you start backing up. I have to disable the backup assist every single time I put the bike on the rack. I absolutely HATE this "feature"...

You can opt to leave the backup braking assist off all the time. But I tell you what when it does slam on the breaks it scares the crap out of me even if I'm expecting it.

On my gen 3 Taco I pulled the headrests off the rear seats and only put them back on when I sold the vehicle.

On my 6G4R, I’m debating removing them, however unlike my old Taco I raised the driver seat so the top of my head is about 1” from the headliner. I prefer to sit higher and it’s more comfortable for me. Bonus, the headrests in the rear seat obstruct less of my view in the rear view.

right now they are folded flat since day 1. dont need the 2nd row really since its just me 95% of the time and rarely the wife comes along in the 4R. we usually just take her 23 tundra since its easier for her to get in and more seat space.

right now i am contemplating just having them tumbled forward full time (im only 5.8 so not a big issue having them tumbled full time)

The digital mirror is neat, but it doesn’t mimic the optical clarity or distance of the plain mirror. It absolutely sux in anything but bright sunlight…

i didnt like it at first on the wifes 23 tundra, but after using it for 2 yrs, i like it better than the regular mirror. glare cut is way faster night time on the digital mirror than using the sensor like it was on my 2014 4R and i didnt run tint on my 2014 4R so the response time was sorely lacking on high beam nuts jobs behind me.

Does anyone else remove the second row headrests to get a "full view" from the rear view mirror? Maybe another solution is to just fold the second row down but it's nice to have them up to put smaller items there.

First day I brought my 2024 Limited home was to remove the front air dam and to pull off the back seat headrests. I was coming from my 1997 Limited which was my daily driver for 28 years which had incredible rear visibility to my new 2026 4Runner. I agree with the headrests in place it creates a dangerous situation with limited rear visibility when backing up and making lane changes.
