Went in for my 5k oil change and found out I somehow picked up a screw in the sidewall of one of the stock tires on my TRD Pro, ugh. The mechanic said it isn’t repairable and, since it’s in the sidewall, it likely won’t be covered under warranty.

Unfortunately, I can’t get in to my local dealer for about a week. I was also told that Toyo stopped producing the 118H and replaced it with the 124Q, which has a higher load rating. Because of that, finding a single matching replacement tire has been harder than I expected.... Looks like I might be upgrading my tires sooner than planned 😕

Can't you use your spare and then put one of the new Toyos (or some other brand) as the spare?
Yeah I suppose I could, good call. I didn't think the spare would match but that would work.

My old 4Runner didn't have a matching spare, total mindblow

Same thing happened to me. The OEM tires are just SL rated (weak sidewalls) and less tread depth too so even a new SL tire wouldn't fully match and they are more expensive despite only being good for about 1/2 the miles of a regular SL Toyo tire. I just put my spare on so I have 4 matching tires (the Pro has a matching wheel and tire) as mentioned by others. Then I bought an E-rated Toyo tire as my spare and switched to a 4 tire rotation. When the current 4 wear out, I'll get 4 new E-rated ones so I'll have 5 matching tires. I'll do 5 tire rotations and if one (hopefully no more than one!) gets irrepairably damaged, I'll just drive on the other 4 like above so I don't have to worry about matching (and get whatever I want next as the new spare). Rinse and repeat. It's a bummer to get an irreparable flat but the 5 matching wheels/tires are nice in this case.

That's good information, I will do the same. Thanks

I'll tell you what I'd do...I'd plug that bitch, put it as the spare only to be used in emergencies, to be replaced when the other four that are good need replaced.

But that's me, and I like to live dangerously.

I wouldn't do that if it was my wife's car...

Why would you need to go back to the dealer in a week? If it's for the tire, tire shops are much cheaper for that kinda of work. Buy a patch kit online and practive plugging it yourself. If it works, save it for your spare. I've plugged several tires along the sidewall and they've ran just fine. Shops just don't do it for liability.

Now that I’ve swapped the spare on I have no need for the dealer.

Appreciate all the help everyone!
