Watching. I will also will be doing 5K changes. After researching I'm sticking with 0w20, especially since I live in a colder climate) but there are obviously lots of opinions vs 5w30. I'm also planning to use OEM filters even though I'm torn on using OEM filters with higher flow but less...
Well if we're playing devil's advocate, the EV boost takes some pressure off the turbo gas engine when initially accelerating. Wouldn't it be interesting if the hybrid powertrain ends up lasting longer than the gas-only version because of lower long-term stress? Clearly there was a strong...
Obviously a lot of this is personal preference so there isn't a right answer. In my case, I drove a 3rd gen for 21 years and loved it. My main issues were poor fuel economy, transmission that hunted for gears, underpowered especially at freeway speeds, outdated tech, and seating comfort. I...
I agree the warning pop-up (that returns as soon as you dismiss it), is super annoying and distracting. You have to go into the menus (while it keeps popping up) to disable the safety feature requiring the front radar if you want the warning to go away. And messing with menus is a hazard in...
Looks great! Just curious, how much did your MPG drop when going to 285s? It looks like the KO3s are LT rating so 15-20lbs more per tire over stock? I have a Pro as well and am getting 19-20 mpg so far and don't want to drop below 18. I'm considering 285s for the future but the MPG hit is a...
I think you have the limited options. I really hate salt/rust so I have thorough rustproofing and rinse the salt off (especially the undercarriage) even in the winter with the garden hose. Luckily I have a hook-up in the garage in Michigan so the hose doesn't freeze except for a few really...
That looks really great! And I think you got a great deal. I was quoted $10K for the same. 4Runners are challenging to wrap with all the shaping on the body. I did the full front PPF (gloss) and my installer (who is really good) had to take a long time with the hood due to the scoop. Enjoy...
I considered all these as well and ended up with the 4Runner TRD Pro which I'm quite happy with. I really like the beefy pro suspension and other features and for me, the hybrid 4 cylinder has plenty of power. I turned off the synthesized noise with Carista and it's quieter. There is a bit of...
First ride in the 4Runner. To the dog park of course. Plenty of room for the big guy. Just wish I could raise the hatch with the window open to let him out vs raising the window first. I get why they have that as a safety feature but I wish I could disable it so my dog doesn't get pinched by...
Happy to give some details on the rustproofing. I'm using a local place called Henderson Bros. It's $850 for the initial application and they do touch-ups for $50 every three years or so. My gen 3 spent 21 years in Michigan and Pennsylvania and this rustproofing (and my own efforts including...
Congrats on your new ride! I know you've been waiting a long time. and I'm glad you're having a good experience. I'm also a happy TRD Pro owner (white) with 700 miles right now. I also had a straightforward purchase at an msrp dealer in the Midwest. Based on the stories I'm glad to no longer...
Thanks all. I think the factory crossbars would have been perfectly fine but I ended up not getting them just to be sure and will be getting a Yakima set instead. The factory ones look like they are good crossbars though (unlike some other manufacturers).
My reasoning is similar to others. I had a gen 3 until a few years ago and switched to a Highlander when my wife got a work car. Missed the 4Runner but didn't want to buy a gen 5 that was so old. I had been waiting several years for Toyota to finally redesign the 4Runner and I liked the new...
Any plans for a system compatible with the hybrids? I recently picked up my Pro and there is quite a drone on the TRD Pro exhaust. I'll see if I get used to it but I can see a lot of Pro owners wanting to change exhaust at some point (hence the question on the hybrid compatibility). Thanks.
Just note that 91 RON (an octane measurement used in Europe and other places) is essentially equivalent to 87 octane (an average of RON and motor octane number) in the US. Confusing. I'm not sure what octane the 4runner MPG and other numbers are based on since I never saw anything from Toyota...
I have one and use it all the time. My dog is over 100 pounds and I don't want him jumping up or down from a height as high as a vehicle onto hard surfaces. You might have to do a little treat training to get your dog using it but it shouldn't take much.
I use woolwax on my vehicles. I have an applicator that kit that works with an air compressor and touch up the undercarriage each fall before winter. Helped my 2002 4Runner last a combined 21 years in Michigan and Pennsylvania with minimal rust. I think it lasts a lot better than fluid film...
