Just came across this video this morning.

"We just upgraded this Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road with the OEM On-Board Air Compressor which is currently only available on TRD PRO and Trailhunter 6th Gen 4Runners. Easy install but does require a ground re-wire to bypass the parking brake requirement built in the compressors ECU. "

Does this require the hybrid version of the off road premium?

As an alternative to having to fiddle around with wiring and potentially fry something I did this as an alternative.

I'm not a sponsor and I purchased this from their website. You start your engine you plug into your trailer Outlet and you're good to go. You can share with friends that need to air up that do not have air compressors.

All the specs are on this website to show how quickly a 33 - 35 Tire will inflate. Hope this helps.

I went down this path with my TRD ORP and was told it couldn't be done. Now I know it can, but I have the question, will this only work with a Hybrid?

He says all trims in the video, I don't see why it wouldn't apply to the entire lineup.

An even better option is the Maddox 12v compressor sold at Harbor Freight.

https://www.harborfreight.com/12v-125-psi-high-performance-inflator-59624.html

It's the exact same as the Smittybuilt one that is extremely popular here with the off road people.

I did cut off the end and put a continuous flow, quick detach coupler on the hose though.

Pretty cool
Someone want to get one and see if it'll install on a non-hybrid?

Here is the issue! I had all the parts both the compressor and the computer. The part you can't buy is the trim panel and unless you have a hybrid, the right rear panel is different on a non-hybrid and there is no where to install the this.

Yep - it seems clear from this post: Trailhunter on board air compressor (and the photos of hybrid (TH) and non hybrid (Limited) as well as my photos from Hybrid TRD ORP) that there simply is not a spot for the compressor in the non-Hybrid trims. And my photos show the space and the power connector behind the trim that is there in my Hybrid. and FINALLY I have proof of the part number and what comes in the box - this video removes so much ambiguity (and even helps with the parking brake workaround).

Here I thought I was done with mods and was content to live with my excellent Wolfbox Jump Starter/Air Compressor. But this video has me contemplating this one more mod.... damn.

Well, I called the guy who did the video and left a message for him to call me or email to let me know if this will definitely work with a TRD ORP non-hybrid. I also spoke to his parts department and they said it will. So since I'm a glutton for punishment...look what I did :)

This is a great alternative, especially for the price. Do you know what the amp rating is for the trailer outlet? I am asking because VIAIR says to be sure to check your auxiliary power circuit rating to make sure it supports the max amp draw of the compressor. The 88P's max amp draw is 20 amps. I looked in owner's manual and it mentioned that the tow lighting system is designed for 5 amps per side for brake and turn lights, which I am presuming is for a total of 10 amps. Obviously, you had no issues, but I was curious if I was not looking in the right spot to get the info. Thanks!

I recall looking at all that info prior to calling Viair and talked to one of the technicians and told him that I had a 25 4Runner with a trailer output Jack and he said that would fine. But the engine does have to be running. I've used it probably three times. No overheating, no weird effects, it just runs.
