The last truck I had was set to auto lock everything when I walked away. Apparently I can’t do that with the 4Runner, So as a result I occasionally just walk away without locking it up! Can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Anyone know if this is possible with the 4Runner?
Thanks

I looked at Carista's website and even on there it doesn't seem like a feature it can turn on. Shame too - even my 2016 Honda Civic locks when I walk away.

Thanks for the information. A simple thing that should have been programmed in.

This sounds like a not very good feature. Hope you find a way for the vehicle to work for you.

I had an acura prior, which had that feature... It took me a week to get used to it, like Vincenzo stated, you just get to the habit of touching the handle, and everything is back to normal... :)

I theory this feature is a good thing...until you leave something in your car that you forgot and go out to the garage and cannot get in because your key is not on you!

OP...a lot of smart azzes on this forum...but I get you because if you are used to something and train yourself one way it takes some time to untrain yourself. My wifes car has this feature which is ok until she asked me to get something out of her car from our garage and I cannot get in because I do not have her key.

Ahhh the snark. Hope everyone feels better after typing their responses out. I guess it is cheaper than therapy.

I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee before and it had the auto lock function as well. So great! It obviously wouldn't lock if the keys were in the vehicle, but as a backup feature to lock the car if your forget, fantastic. Agree, it would be nice for Toyota to have the option to turn that kind of feature on.

almost as hard as choosing LOCK on the door switch when leaving,
...or worse, pressing LOCK on the keyfob while walking away
I understand your perspective. But for me, I like the "walk away" feature on my Honda. I usually keep the fob in my work bag which sits on the back seat. I open my door, toss it on the back seat, and then hop in, hit button, and go. When we get to work, I like getting out, grabbing my bag, and walking away and the door locks as I get about 10' away. My wife and I carpool (work at same business) so often I'm out of the car before she it. But on days we drive the 4Runner, since the key is in my bag, I have to wait until she is clear and her door is closed before tapping my door handle to lock up. Or open up my bag each time to tap the button on the fob. Agreed that it isn't drastically changing my day's schedule...but the technology is out there and wouldn't have been difficult to implement. Heck, they already utilize the fob's proximity to slowly raise the interior lights as you approach...it's not a stretch to think they could reverse that by locking as you walk away.

Best you can do is If you leave the truck unlocked and walk away, you can have the Toyota Remote Connect app send a push notification to your phone letting you know it's unlocked, allowing you to lock it remotely from the app.

The app yells at me when I leave it unlocked, which I do quite often!
