TRD Pro on 295/70/18 Recons (53lbs per tire), Prinsu Pro Rack (all this matters...)

The tires definitely throw off the calculations because of the bigger diameter. I would say in reality I'm probably getting 1-1.5 mpg higher than what the computer or the gas pump tells me.

Lifetime Average (3100 miles so far): 17.0.

Depending how I drive I range between 13-22 mpgs.

I had AI summarize the i-Force Max Hybrid MPG figures reported in this thread so far, broken down by driving style:

Driving Style / ConditionTypical / Common MPG ReportsNotes / Extremes
Moderate / mixed driving (city + highway, moderate speed, ECO mode / gentle driving)~ 20 to 22.5 mpgOne user: averaging 21 mpg over ~40% highway / 40% backroads / 20% town. (4Runner6G.com)
~ 22.0 – 22.1 mpgReport from “MikeLSV” on his second tank: “22.07 … mix of highway @72 mph (70 %), city (most of rest), and 4HI off road (15 NM).” (4Runner6G.com)
~ 22.9 mpgReport in ECO / town driving: “I’ve seen … 22.9 while driving around town in ECO mode” (4Runner6G.com)
Primarily highway / cruise / favorable conditions~ 19 to 20 mpgOne user did CC at 77 mph and got 19.4 mpg (3 passengers + light bags). (4Runner6G.com)
~ ~20.3 mpgRound trip average from one user including highway: “21.2 reading … round trip avg was 20.3” mpg (4Runner6G.com)
Mixed, moderate (with hills / backroads)~ ** ~21 mpg**“Been averaging 21 mpg … 40 % highway, 40 % 45 mph backroads with long hills, ~20 % town” (4Runner6G.com)
Towing / heavy load~ 12 to 14 mpg (much lower)One user towing ~4,000 lb box trailer got ~14 mpg in TOW/HAUL mode. (4Runner6G.com) Another: “in TOW/HAUL … averaging 12-13 mpg” with similar mix of roads. (4Runner6G.com)

Observations & Comparisons vs Non-Hybrid Thread
  1. Higher baseline in many cases
For non-hybrid 4Runners, many values clustered in the high teens to low 20s mpg for mixed driving. The hybrid thread shows that under moderate driving, many owners are achieving ~20–22+ mpg fairly reliably — an improvement, especially under favorable conditions.
  2. Greater sensitivity to speed / load / conditions
Even with hybrid, high speeds (e.g. CC at 77 mph) drag mpg down, and towing or heavy loads dramatically erode efficiency. The delta is large (e.g. 12–14 mpg when towing).
  3. Reporting / instrumentation caveats
    • Most of the reported numbers are from the dash / instantaneous / average fuel economy readings (rather than independent tank math).
    • Some comments suggest the vehicle is still in “break-in” period, so early numbers may not reflect eventual steady state. 4Runner6G.com
    • A few users express disappointment at not matching advertised highway MPG (e.g. setting CC at 77 mph, expecting highway rating, but getting ~19.4 mpg). 4Runner6G.com
  4. Spread is wide
The spread in real-world performance is large (from as low as ~12–14 mpg when towing to around ~22.9 mpg in light ECO mode). That level of spread is consistent with how much load, terrain, speed, and driving style matter.

I had my 5000 mile service done and added an oil change. I could be nuts but it seems like the MPG is better after that.

That said, the EPA in its infinite wisdom does highway mileage testing at 60 MPH. I don't know anyone in the southwest who drives that slowly on the highway.

18.6 mpg with 1900 miles and 285/70/18’s. Beats my 5th gen’s 16 mpg’s but with the smaller tank I am filling much more frequently which is a pain in the ass after 4 years with my X5 MSport that would go 500 miles on on a tank.

3 weeks and 1800mi into ownership on mine, seeing around 21-21.5 consistently on each tank but some "trips" showing higher averages of 23+. Mostly in Eco mode, air dam has been removed.

I still consistently get between 23-24 MPG overall on my stock ORP Hybrid, not including when I am off-road or pulling a trailer. I always run in eco mode, have not seen a reason to do otherwise. Air dam on unless I am off-road.

Mine is pretty new (under 1k miles still) and my first tank, the computer said 19ish mpg. That was pretty consistently over 75 almost all highway (driving it home). But I didn't top it off and I didn't know how to reset the trip meter, so likely not very accurate. My first accurate measurement was on my second fill up, today. 21.6 mpg with about 25% highway and 75 city. That's a hand calculation based on miles/gallons at pump, not the computer. Bone stock with ARB 3/4 roof rack and the air dam off.

Even if it never gets higher, I'm 100% a happy camper. 5th gen on the same routes/commute gets 17, and my Tundra gets 13.

2,500 miles and 2 oil changes down we are getting 19.6mpg. Sport mode 100% of the time and VERY spirited acceleration from stop lights 🤣

20.2 mpg overall average. Mixed city/highway. TRD Pro, eco mode, 3400 miles.
Still can’t get better than the 18&change mpg with 2k on the odometer and driving mostly in eco. Not that much better than my fifth gen.

I've had my 4Runner Trail Hunter for about 7 months now and was initially a bit disappointed in the fuel economy compared to actual ratings. I'm closing in on 5,000 miles, already changed the oil twice, once for break-in and one for the 5000 mile mark. For quite a while I was getting less than 15 in town and about 16 on the highway, that lower highway mileage I attribute to the speed limits in my area being 75 in miles per hour. Just did a trip from Central Texas into the San Juan mountains of Colorado and off-roaded for a week and that mileage started creeping up. I'm guessing it just needed more break-in because that entire trip averaged 17.5 miles per gallon (including days of rock crawling) and now that I'm home, I'm getting 19 in the city. And I ignore the mileage computer and do the math in a logbook. I'm pretty pleased with the results now. The maximum mileage I've gotten so far is 22.6 on the highway, I'm good with that.
