A bit over 3000 miles, 87 octane, today is the first day this year that It was over 70° and I got 23 miles per gallon, 40 mile trip. No freeway driving, mostly county two lane roads doing about 50-55. Noticeable improvement over the cold weather mileage.

Anyone in a trailhunter or trd pro get anywhere close to that 23 City?

Compared to driving a TRD ORP that I rented, the trailhunter can't stay on just battery because it's so hefty. I find the engine kicks in even just tooting around a parking lot. I felt like I could keep the TRD ORP hybrid rolling on battery for a bit.

at ~10,600 and still getting 21-22+ easy. highway between 65-75mph I can reliably get 23-25. not sure how all of you are getting such crap mpg...

Warming up and mpg up as expected. ORP with stock Michelins, no air dam, 87 octane, and eco mode mostly. Much better than my 2004, 2018, and 2021 still. Quite happy with it.

I have been averaging 16.1 city 19.6 highway. Car has just over 700 miles. I’d like to see if fuel economy improves as the engine breaks in but I m not surprised that the figures are so off EPA estimates. The bigger tires , roof rack, high air intake and more open front bumper all are not aerodynamic friendly. That being said I didn’t buy this 4Runner to be saving $$ on fuel. I am really happy with it.

It should improve. I run 87 top tier and I average 20.5-21 normally. I've had many tanks in the 22's. All mix driving. Honestly I feel like in long road trips is no better than cruising in town, but in this part of Texas is ALWAYS windy ! I noticed the other day that temps in 75-80 are prime to get better mpg in town. If you coast at speeds, it goes into EV a lot. i also have 23k so everything is getting quite seasoned already.

P.s. get you some kind of mud flaps up front unless you want rock ships on your rear doors and fender flares... I got plenty with the factory ones.....

I have another thread but thought I would post here because of how impressed I was. Reset trip and MPG in Carlsbad, NM and started a 150.5 mile loop, 60 miles of it were off-road, and ended in Artesia, NM. Added 5.567 gallons in Artesia, giving me an average of 27.03 MPG. Still had 3 quarters of a tank, which blew me away. ECO mode the whole way.

Drove back from the Carolina beaches to the Upstate yesterday. Hills, temps in the mid-40s and a brisk headwind.....rocked 15.5 MPG. Not impressed. I was in Normal mode doing 75-80 mph, no hard accelerations. Hopefully the summer brings better results. I've noticed on my XC90 (4cyl, turbo + supercharged) that it gets noticeably better MPGs in the summer than in cold weather. I'm hoping that is the case with the 4Runner.

Part of the issue of your gas mileage on that trip is comparing apples to oranges with your XC 90. Before runner is always going to get worse gas mileage than that vehicle due to body shape alone. 75 to 80 is also going to eat into your efficiency regardless of speed limit allowances. You had several factors stacked on top of each other reducing your miles per gallon. I wouldn’t assume 15.5 is the average on those types of trips, just that you had more going against you at that time than normal driving

I'm not attempting to compare actual MPG numbers between the two vehicles but comparing the fact that both engines are turbocharged. I fully realize that conditions were not ideal and yes the xc90 would've suffered too. I'm hoping that the 4Runner turbo performs better in the summer similar to my xc90 turbo. That is a red delicious and macintosh comparison.

Here in Canada the gasoline charges to winter gas for the colder months. I find my fuel economy is worse then as well. Perhaps the formula changes for you as well?
