I think my 4Runner is possessed! The noise is gone for the last two days! Maybe because it knows I made an appointment to have it checked?🤣🤣🤣

Well, the screeching sound has returned!!! Made an appointment for next Monday! Will keep you guys posted. I reviewed a video to show the technicians

That's so frustrating and I'm in a similar boat. You most likely will have to leave it overnight so they can reproduce the noise. That's what my dealer made me do the first time.

However I will note, the squealing comes and goes after my dealer did the TSB and resurfaced the rotors. Sometimes when I reverse after it has sat outside for two days there is no squealing. Other times I reverse after half a day of errands and it squeals. The silver lining is when it does squeal, it's not as bad as it was initially. Maybe you are experiencing the same thing with regards to the noise being there one day and then gone the next.

It's difficult to talk to the maintenance guys because neither of us know what's going on. "I don't know. Sometimes it's a problem and sometimes it's not. Can you fix that?"

Just a ridiculous situation to have to deal with in 2025 with a reputable automaker like Toyota. Sigh.

I agree with you! It was the first time the screeching noise returned. I remembered it was a very humid day, however, we have a 2021 4Runner in the house at it doesn’t screech at all. I won’t justify Toyota by agreeing to “humidity could make the brakes screech” argument because I have another Toyota 4Runner next to mine and does not follow this poorly articulated excuse. I have had Toyota cars all my life, but I am thinking about switching brands. The question is which one to choose that does not have issues. Well, let’s see where this leads. For now, if I don’t record any noise tomorrow, I will cancel my appointment. It would be a waste of the time I don’t have. We purchase Toyotas for a reason, and that reason is vanishing.

update on 1/12/26- took my vehicle to dealership. A Techcase was opened since they applied the TSB and the problems continues. Will drop the vehicle next Wednesday to have it inspected by Toyota engineers on Thursday. The soap opera continues... LOL

I took my SR5 in for an early oil change, o notes the TSB in the online appointment form.

They were able to knock it out. The said it was pads + hardware and add an hour to the service.

🤞 the noise doesn’t return.

Update: mechanics could not replicate the noise, so two days after, nothing was done. I sent Toyota two videos to include them on my case. I still have to hear from the case manager next week. I can’t believe that I wasted this third time and nothing could be done. Very disappointed!!

Ugh. Been there... keep us posted.

My squealing seems to come and go, similar situation as you, dealership can't reproduce it sometimes, it's so annoying. $50,000 vehicle btw, ridiculous.

If you have access to another dealer… you may want to just try that.
Per above… my experience was a total non-event. I put it in my notes and they knocked it out. It’s baffling to me that you’d have to fight so hard.

I trust people at the dealership, and I understand what is happening. However, this does not mean that I feel safe driving a vehicle with this situation. That noise is metal against metal, and nobody knows what could happen. I have an open case with Toyota. The case manager has been very understanding. Let’s see what happens next week when he calls me again. This seems like a case by case situation. In mine, they did some work the first time and the second time they applied the TSB, but the noise keeps coming back. I took videos and included them when I opened another case with Toyota. Let’s see what happens!🙏🏻

That is just a terrible dealer service dept. I brought mine in for the 6 month service and told them I wanted the brakes inspected since they were screeching when in reverse. I told them I had a few videos so they wouldn't have to wait until they reproduced the noise themselves. They told me no problem, they would just honor the TSB and no need to see the video. Sorry you didn't get the same answer.

New here. Been having the same brake issue as the rest of you. My dealership is worthless….Ft Walton Beach. Had it in last week for initial oil change and TSB for brakes. After three hours they finished the oil change and nothing to the brakes. After a complaint to Toyota Headquarters the dealership called me back and apologized for not completing the work. An hour later they texted and said Toyota said to stop all TSB fixes. Today I filled a complaint with the NHTSB. I did this once before on an issue with another vehicle and they got on the manufacturer and they quickly (within two weeks) had a fix they couldn’t resolve for over six months. Suggest a few other file a complaint as well and perhaps things will get moving.
On another note, has anyone replaced their brakes on their own and were able to resolve the issue.

Been there done that but yes everyone keep filing them. I got mine March 2025 been squealing since. Multiple calls to Toyota brand including arbitration process and I got 0 out of it. They did do the tsb twice but nothing. I also filed nhtsb and nothing they never contacted me about the nhtsb complaint.

25 TRD ORP gas. 3474 miles. Backing up, just heard a loud brake squeal for the first time!!! So loud my wife heard it inside the house.

SMH…:(

Taking it to the dealership if I hear it again.
