Hi everyone. I’ve seen some discussions online about metal shavings in the iForce Max powertrain and recommendations to flush the system with an oil change at either 500 or 1,000 miles. Has anyone experienced any issues related to this? I’m approaching 500 miles and wondering if I should be concerned or just knock out a quick oil change and not worry about it.

You were reading the V6 iForce Max engines.
Nothing to do with our L4 iForce Max in the 4 Runner

I personally still recommand getting rid of the factory oil asap, others may say otherwise, it's your choice.

there will always be metal shavings after the first oil change. the argument people have is whether or not it affects the longevity of the engine to purge that oil quickly (500 miles or 1000 miles) or wait till the recommended interval (10K miles). I personally did my first at 3.5K, 7K, and 10K then ill do it every 5K after. Ive researched it and not found definitive "your engine will live 5 years longer" evidence but do it just because an oil change cost like $35 and takes 15 minutes to do so id rather do it more frequently just in case. it doesnt hurt to over maintain your vehicle.

Yeah, no issues here for us. As good practice and maybe to sleep better at night do it sooner than later. I did mine @ 1.9K , then @ 6k , 11k and last one @ 16k. Will probably do the next one at 20K jsut to stay in the odd 5K intervals.
Enjoy the truck!

You're suppose to do an oil change but not change the filter! The filter gets better as it gets older or you "restart the process". Planning on doing a change at 500 and 1k and also change the filter out at the 1k mark. Oil changes will never hurt the car :)

first oil change is up to debate on when it should be done.

500, 1000, 1500 ?

but per AMD on care car nut, turbo's should be done every 3000-4000 miles from his latest video on it.

and 5000 miles on n/a engines. never go 10k miles on any engine per ADM.

i wil be changing my 23 tundra oil change interval to 4000 from 5000.

i already did the 1st oil change on my 25 4R platinum at 1414 miles and will do it again at 4000 and every 4000 miles after that.

My $0.02 input is I had the oil and filter changed at about 1200. Then again at 4000. I intend on repeating about every 4000. Not a big issue for me as I estimate doing about 8000 miles a year.

I can’t imagine getting the debris generated during manufacturing and engine break in out of there sooner rather than later is a bad thing. But plenty of cars have lived long lives with owners who didn’t bother. I think I’m going to do mine at 1k and then again at 5k and do 5k changes from there. Here’s a pretty solid video about it: (sorry about clickbait title)

Actually just did mine this afternoon having crossed the 500-mile threshold on my ORP hybrid. Ran an additional quart through after draining to help clean it out a little better. Left the filter on. Fairly easy aside from loosening super-tight bolts on the skid plate and some spillage, just glad I had individual quart bottles cause it's a slow process adding the oil (funnel doesn't fit straight in like I'm used to on my old Taco).

That was my first post.

i trust ADM on CCnut more and follow his advice. he has done plenty of engine tears downs on lack of maint. engines and those that had pristine maint. done on them.

I got an oil change at 1000 miles just in case. The included Service from Toyota that was due at 5000 miles only included tire rotation which I didn’t really need since I had just put new tires on at about 600 miles but I went ahead and let them do it anyway just so there’s a record of the service being done.
