Do you use your Sunroof / Moonroof?

Only time I used my moonroof on any car I've owned is when I had snowboards on a roofrack. On really windy days it was peace of mind to check if anything came loose when I heard some weird noises.

Sometimes it is nice to crack the roof open and let out some hot air through there instead of the door windows. But this only happens a few times during the summer.

I always tell the dealer, if it has a moonroof thats fine but if not its ok too. Not a dealbreaker for me.

Mostly all of my vehicles had sunroof. Everyone of them leak after ten years. This 4 runner have a sunroof I wish it didnt. If I was an off road junkie I wouldn’t had bought it. The twisting,turning climbing off road is already stressful on the body. Lucky its a body over the frame suv

I used mine quite a bit. The kids and I called it "Jeep mode" when we rolled down all windows (including the rear) and opened the sunroof. It's kinda fun and blows some of the dog hair out, although it also swirls around a lot . I had my 3rd gen 4runner for 21 years and never had the moonroof leak.

Yes, use it pretty often outside of summer. It was a deal breaker for the wife if there was no moon roof.

Our Santa Fe Ultimate trim came with an unwanted sunroof. We've opened it maybe 5 times in 7 years... all at night.

Refused several ORP offers with moonroof. Dealer trucked one without a moonroof in from out of state for us.

Anyway, what's the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof ?

I would really like to have a conversation with the Allocation ordering team at Toyota and Lexus USA.​

Itwould have been a great way to save $800 and get more headroom and better reliability without that option.


Every single 4Runner I saw available early on and later had a moonroof. Same thing for Lexus GX550’s in all trims.​

I would have liked to have the extra headroom of a non-moonroof 4Runner, but it wasn’t meant to be. We are very happy with our TRD Sport premium though, even with an unloved moonroof.

I will end up opening it just a few times a year to let heat out in the summer while parked, and just to excercise it and keep it functional.

anyone else notice slight wind noise after closing the moonroof? you have to kind of slide it back a bit again to release pressure on the rubber seal and it sets like it is supposed to.

i am waiting for warmer weather to monkey around with it to see if it is only on the manual close or the 1-tap auto close.

(i always thought a moonroof slid open, and a sunroof tilted, but all of them do both now)

When I remember it opens. I almost always run with the rear window cracked or all the way down in the warmer months. The rear window is one if the amazing thing about having a 4Runner
